Has anyone have experience of being a staff school governor?

Apart from the meetings, I'm wondering what kind of thing will I be expected to do and how much time will be be involved?

I am support/learning staff, not a teacher.

Help, shall I go for it?

Very difficult being a Staff Governor as you are supposed to hold the ‘executive’ to account but difficult when that person is your boss on a day to day basis. You can learn a lot about how to be a Governor but I always found it better to be a Governor elsewhere once I’d learned staff Governor skills

I was a teacher governor. It was just the meetings, really, no one ever asked me to take something to governors nor did I have to take anything away to ask people about. I did sometimes offer something in an email or staff meeting, though, if I thought it should be explained or to say people could ask me questions. I found it really interesting.
