Participant Information Sheet (PIS)
An insight to supply teachers' perspective of students' behaviour in a secondary mainstream learning environment
I would like to request you to take part in a research study that I am conducting. Before making your decision, I would like to understand why the research is being done and what exactly you will be doing. Please take your time to ready through the information carefully and decider whether you’d like to take part or not.
Who I am and what this study is about
Working as a supply teacher I have been put in situations where I have come stuck from no fault of my own, SLT members in schools are often under a lot of pressure to keep the wheel turning they overlook many things. As a supply teacher I would like to see better behaviour as it allows not only me as the teacher to teach the lesson more effectively but it also allows the students to learn without any disruptions.
What is involved by taking part?
The findings from this research will be available to all participants who took part with the questionnaire and anyone else that it is relevant too, the data can be presented in a report format which will be stored securely on the BCU network and shared among the sites used. The data collected from the questionnaire can also be shown in a visual format such as in a chart form or on an excel spreadsheet, this could potentially benefit the users who took part in questionnaire as well as other members of the groups. The questionnaire will be shared alongside this sheet and will take roughly 5 – 7 minutes to complete.
Why have I been invited to take part?
I have invited you take part in this study as I believe having other supply teachers’ responses and personal experience will greatly benefit this research. Each individual has their own teaching styles and past experiences that can help this specific research and potentially lead to suggestions for better behaviour management techniques.
Do I have to take part?
Participants taking part in the research will do so in their own time, I will not be meeting up with anyone taking the questionnaire and all questions will be strictly directed towards the purpose of research which does not require any personal or sensitive data. I won’t even know who will be filling out the form so anyone can answer it, also, an online questionnaire is anonymous by nature because no sensitive information will be requested or collected. You will not have to take part if you do not want to.
What are the benefits and possible risks of taking part?
I intend to research “An insight to supply teachers' perspective of students' behaviour in a secondary mainstream learning environment” by focusing on the research questions mentioned above, to gather the data required I will be creating a questionnaire to collect anonymous and impartial information. The reason I wish to collect data anonymously is because questionnaires are anonymous by nature, to make sure the data that is collected remains anonymous participants will be reminded not to share any personal information and will not have the opportunity to input any sensitive data. The data collected will have great significance to this research as it will come directly from supply teachers potentially from different locations across England, this will be achieved by sharing the questionnaire on platforms such as forums listed below on this document where supply staff can share their own experiences. I will be structuring my questions in a professional manner so when participants are answering the questions they will so in confidence. The questions will not be directly or indirectly asking for sensitive information which could participants in a difficult situation.
Will taking part be in confidence?
Due to the data collection method collecting information anonymously I will not be asking specific questions such as age or gender, however, the inclusion/exclusion criteria will include questions how long the participant has been teaching and where in the UK they have been teaching.
How will the information you provide be stored, recorded and shared?
The findings from this research will be available to all participants who took part with the questionnaire and anyone else that it is relevant too, the data can be presented in a report format which will be stored securely on the BCU network and shared among the sites used. The data collected from the questionnaire can also be shown in a visual format such as in a chart form or on an excel spreadsheet, this could potentially benefit the users who took part in questionnaire as well as other members of the groups.
Thank you for taking your time to read this information sheet.
