How do we all stay positive in teaching and continue to do what is right for the children, even though we can be surrounded by so much negativity?
Based in Scotland I'm already on my summer holidays and getting prepared for my new class in august. I'm really looking forward to the change of stage, with lots of new teaching ideas and opportunities. My problem is, the class I will be taking on includes a number of pupils who have been displaying a variety of challenging behaviours, resulting in some staff and children already stereotyping them as 'bad'. I've been luckily enough to have a positive relationship with them, so they see me more as safe space to regulate and calm down. I'm hoping a new teaching style and approach will help them settle but everytime I talk about it I am shot down with negativity and how nothing will work etc etc.. I feel my up beat spirit is being drained already.
