Is it internal promotion? It's not a very common role. It's only core subjects at most schools I've worked at. When is your interview? It's try nine mapping what they want and then how you can offer it so you can cover all bases.

Googling head of department interviews might shed some light on it.

As for questions - Ensure you have an interview elevator pitch (google it) for the first tell us a bit about your self question. Diff between leadership and management. Problematic member of staff. Safeguarding scenario. Supporting HOD. Own CPD. Priorities for the department. Current developments/barriers in own subject. Covid recovery. Data. PP and SEND. Literacy in your subject. Ofsted prep. Good teaching/ observations. Progress over time.

It is, for a core subject and it's on Monday.

Thank you for shedding light on possible questions!

What would you do if you disagreed with a decision made by the HoD?
ANSWER- speak to them in private to see if you can further understand their view or get them to see your view. Promote it to team members without them being aware that you disagree with it. If it were very serious, go above DoH's head but only if you thought it was a risk to the integrity or attainment of the department.

What do you think the priorities are for the department?
How will you manage the extra commitments in terms of time / work - life balance etc?
What would you do if you introduced an initiative and colleagues didn’t follow it?
