Ratios in EYFS! Help please.

Can someone explain ratios in EYFS to me. I currently work in a class of 17 kids (preschool age/FS1). It’s just me and the class teacher. I am unqualified but working towards my CACHE level 3.

There are a number of children in the class that have very significant SEN but no diagnosis’.

Do we have appropriate staffing levels?

Thanks.

Yes, you do. Assuming the teacher is qualified the ratio is 1:13 regardless of your qualification.

However, hope work is going in to attain diagnosis where appropriate as although officially ok ratio wise it does not mean appropriate or even safe if need high.
However, I'm afraid, through bitter experience, that you are probably going to have to cope...

It's not about whether children with SEN have a diagnosis, but about how their needs are being met.

If there are children whom you feel need a higher level of adults in the room to ensure their needs are met, they need EHCPs, high needs funding etc.
