Pupil moaning about me

GCSE exam last week. I am doing a maternity cover at really nice school. As I was heading to lesson in front of me was Year 11 pupil from my class & I overheard her say to her friend who had just asked how did you do? “Fu Beachcomber didn’t help at all” She turned & saw me & was embarrassed. I was teaching her the next lesson so asked could I have word. She said I didn’t mean to be disrespectful but other teacher prepared us for the questions & told us what they were going to be. I said “well it’s different in Year 10 as you’re being trained up to answer a specific question”. I felt really upset that she was so rude. I don’t want to escalate it & open a can of worms but feel really annoyed when all the others in the class have been so appreciative. I have worked tirelessly to get them ready for exam & just feel so deflated.

She thinks she bombed the exam and is practising an excuse. Don’t give it another thought.

She was talking to her friend, and you overheard what wasn't meant for your ears so she wasn't being rude. There's nothing to escalate.

You can turn yourself inside out to help your class, and there'll still be those who say you did nothing. It only becomes an issue if they make it a formal complaint.

Thanks for reassurance-I feel better about it this morning.

Grow a thicker skin. They’ll be saying a lot worse. Did you never moan about/blame a teacher to your friends?
