Is anyone else marking exams this year? How are you finding the support offered by your board?

Has anyone had a single £ from AQA? None of my team have, and obviously are a bit unhappy. I stayed on hold for more than 30 mins of my free today, and emails are getting no reply. All of us hit the threshold for payment more than 3 weeks ago, so under “normal” pay would have had some money into bank accounts

LifeInsideMyhead · 01/07/2022 07:52

Ah I'm so relieved to hear that. This is my first time with AQA and I finished first lot ages ago. I was wondering if here had been a problem with my pay in particular.

I definitely got told once you were over threshold you should get paid weekly...

LifeInsideMyhead · 01/07/2022 07:53

(Obviously not pleased for everyone else just relieved its not just me!)

JaffavsCookie · 01/07/2022 22:06

You should, it has always been a big motivator. Markers hit the 75% threshold, and get money in their bank accounts within a week ( often less, it you hit 75% on a Wednesday you met the Thursday pay run and the money was in your account on Monday)
great motivator for busy teachers who were getting a bit fed up of the fact that exam marking swallows all of your free time.
Not this year, got a generic semi apologetic email today

Oh it must vary by subject then. Ive not been paid and got the letter. It's put me off doing the extra.... but no word of extra pay for theblast ones!

Lucylocks222 · 05/07/2022 10:48

is anyone marking lit for a big exam board gcse? Are you allowed to carry on now if you have got your quota? I’m close to hitting mine but really unclear as to whether there will be extra this year. The communication has been so poor.

Lucylocks222 · 05/07/2022 10:49

Sorry meant to say once you have hit your quota

MrsHamlet · 05/07/2022 10:58

You have to ask for more.

Lucylocks222 · 05/07/2022 11:03

@MrsHamlet have they given more this year though?

Lucylocks222 · 05/07/2022 11:04

@MrsHamlet i know they have in previous years but this year there is no communication to suggest any more are available

MrsHamlet · 05/07/2022 11:13

Speak to the person above you in the chain. They'll know.

WibblyWobblyLane · 05/07/2022 21:09

The deadline for 100% quota for my subject was last week and we still haven't been paid.

MrsHamlet · 05/07/2022 21:11

We're not complete yet but I'll be getting extras this week. HUGE component.

LifeInsideMyhead · 05/07/2022 22:56

I'm onto the extras (my subject finished a while ago) but extras paid at same rate - nothing has been paid yet which is a bit demoralising!!

Lucylocks222 · 06/07/2022 06:56

@LifeInsideMyhead did they start extras straight from deadline or was there a wait?
We have had some payment but lots inaccurate!

LifeInsideMyhead · 06/07/2022 07:30

I think it might vary by subject how it works...

Ours was a free for all the day after the deadline- we got an email when it went live.

I've not had any money and its my first year doing it so I wouldn't really know if it was inaccurate. I might go into the system and just manually write down how many of each Q I have done. How do you know if its right? Is it clear from the payslip?

JaffavsCookie · 06/07/2022 22:19

I logged into itrent this evening and discovered i am getting some pay finally this week, marking on that particular component finished 2 weeks ago nearly! So might be worth having a look on there.

itrytomakemyway · 06/07/2022 22:45

I got paid today - and it's nowhere near what I worked it out to be. My deadline was three weeks ago so they have had plenty of time to tally up how many questions I have marked. I can only hope there is another payment on it's way. If not this will be the last time I mark for them.

LifeInsideMyhead · 06/07/2022 22:49

My pay has breakdown per q in it and is as I expected. And seems to include marking done up to yesterday.

I need to claim the tax back though as low income and not sure if thays AQA or gov ... im stuck in a loop trying to email aqa!

itrytomakemyway · 06/07/2022 22:59

Mine is a breakdown q by q - and I marked my last qu nearly two weeks ago. I have kept a record of how many I marked and I the payslip is showing a far lower number - varies between 10 and 20% less than the actual number marked. I have a feeling they don't pay for seeds (which is very unfair as they still take the same amount of time to mark), but even then 10% or so of the questions can't be seeds?

If what I have been paid is the final total then I have not made minimum wage for the hours worked.

itrytomakemyway · 06/07/2022 23:00

If you have paid tax you will be able to claim it back from HMRC - but not until after April next year I believe.

LifeInsideMyhead · 06/07/2022 23:09

No they don't pay for seeds and 10% sounds about right. The intiial few each day and then the sporadic seeds. I meant to keep a record of the hours i worked. Some hours were below minimum wage but others were more lucrative. I am not thinking about the day or two spent preparing/standardisation etc .. it has been excellent cpd.

Oh heck I can't get the money back til next year!? Any idea who I should contact?

Lucylocks222 · 06/07/2022 23:41

How strange… I get paid for seeds?

my pay has been correct expect for the incorrect tax code on my first and most substantial payslip… waiting for a refund … not sure it will happen from AQA which is frustrating.

they’ve still not lifted the cap days after deadline which is really frustrating as I always used to do some extra to boost the income from it, surely they can’t just not have any extra this year? They usually have loads that they need help with.

LifeInsideMyhead · 07/07/2022 07:08

Oh that is stŕange. You'd qssume that was a policy across AQA rather than by subject.
