Head of faculty interview

I'm currently head of department in a medium secondary school and I'm interviewing for a head of faculty post. I have been told there is a written task - I imagine it'll be either data analysis or an in tray task.

If anyone's done these in interviews, what sort of things came up?

Hiya, I had a recent successful interview for a HoF post 🙂

I had a lesson -only 20 minutes.

30 mins to prepare a presentation on my vision for the faculty/how I would achieve that. This was the written task and no prior info was given. No access to Internet either. We had to present it at the start of the formal interview.

Formal interview - mine lasted about an hour and a quarter so it was quite intense although it actually didn't feel like it when I was in there.

Make sure you can talk about how you have driven change forward, raised attainment etc. I took a folder with some relevant examples to show which was useful when discussing certain things.
Other questions focussed on curriculum design, dealing with a member of staff not following policy/an unhappy parent. Disciplinary literacy as well.
Really look at the schools vision and ethos and consider how you might link your answers to it.

Good luck!

Ooh I hadn't thought of that, thank you. I have some ideas in my application, and I'll prep some more before next week. It's my current school I'm interviewing at so the vision and the mission are drilled into me!

Congrats on your new job too!

Thank you 😊

If it's your current school, that will make the vision part easier.

Remember to sell yourself as if they don't know you though. I applied for 2nd in faculty in my own school a couple of years ago and didn't get it. It came up again a year later and I got a friend who is a retired headteacher to do a mock interview with me - he said I had all the skills/experience but wasn't selling myself so we worked on that. I got the job so it must have worked.

Can you get someone to do a mock interview with you?
