Does your school award sports colours or other sports awards at the end of the school year? We are looking at revamping what we do and I am trying to understand what other schools do to help us create a new system. Our school is year 7-13. Thanks

Yes - parent of a sporty DC rather than a teacher.

Half colours are awarded for playing for the first team for a certain number of fixtures in one year, and full colours for two.

You could expand/change this so that half colours are also awarded for A team membership in other age groups (particularly if there is churn at 16+)

There are also awards each year to every year group in each of the major sports for MVP and most improved.

The one they don't do and I wish they did is a 'most sporting' prize. And another they could usefully add is outstanding achievement in any sport (which could include sports outside school if you happen to know about them). These tend to get a mention in the school newsletter or an assembly though.

Thanks @Ethelswith - that’s interesting that you only get colours for 1st teams. We currently award Colours for every year group and all the major sports. They are awarded on the basis of showing both talent, commitment and good attitude. But it always causes upset in some form as it is tricky as to wear to draw the line. We are looking to streamline it. We also do player of the season and most improved. Plus unsung hero’s that cross over sports. I would like to suggest coaches player, players player, most improved and sportsmanship awards…. And get rid of the yearly colours but I think the school like the colours and don’t appreciate the trauma it causes the pe teachers!
