DSL not escalating safeguarding procedures.

Hi all

I have recently found out that since Oct, a child has had several safeguarding issues raised by different colleagues to the DSO and DSL. They've always told the staff raising the issues that they have been logged.

When the staff have chased for an update, they've been told there's no need for Social services involvement as the child has not made a disclosure,or,more recently, the emails have just been ignored and not responded to by DSO or DSL.

Several members of staff are now concerned that the DSO and DSL aren't escalating or even logging these concerns. What is the next step if you feel the DSL is not safeguarding correctly?

I as a professional have informed social services about the concerns for the child independently but I wanted to know what are the next steps if problems with DSL.

Hi Op, assuming the DSO/DSL is the headteacher, you need to refer to Chair of Governors as per KCSIE 2021, para. 74. If not, report direct to HT. Good luck.

Hi,yes the DSL is the Head. And the school is independent so doesn't have governors. Any other ideas?!

If you're worried about the child, go straight to the LADO or police. DSLs aren't gatekeepers.

Thank you,I went to Lado so just wanted to ensure I haven't missed a step.
