Applying for teacher training

Any advice on how to stand out in an application for teacher training. I’m almost 40, have had management roles and have a degree (but want to teach primary not degree subject). I’m currently doing an online course in behaviour that challenges.

No school experience but run a church group for children and organise other children activities so have safeguarding knowledge.

NQT here, 42. I worked as a volunteer for 2 years at an educational charity which supported pupils in achieving pass grades at GCSE. I went twice a week and worked with small groups.

I also tutored at local secondary school lunchtime groups.

I have taught English abroad and hold a TEFL cert.

I was accepted as a SCITT student in my area two years ago - a hard two years but am loving my current role as a secondary teacher. I couldn't do primary, and am in awe of anyone who does.

You don't need to stand out for an ITT application.

Just complete the application carefully (spelling and grammar do matter) and make sure you include all your previous experience with children and in other areas of work / volunteering - pointing out the relevance to primary teaching.

Then write about why you want to be a primary teacher. Be honest, and show your passion.

Do some reading around, and talk to anyone you know with teaching experience.

We (School Direct provider) would interview you with your background.

I'm 44 and doing my QTS with a scitt.

I did some volunteering in primary just to get a feel for school life.

Application and interview counts for more I would have thought.

Thank you, I have a call with an adviser today. I have registered as a volunteer at my child’s school (in October) but they’re still not taking volunteers yet but hopefully that will change soon.
