I'm a TA and in struggling to get to my child's pickup. Is it cheeky to ask to leave 5 minutes early? I haven't worked in the school very long so I don't know what is usual.

What are your hours?

Stripeydressh · 02/01/2022 13:24

8.50-3.20 but I'd need to leave at 3.15 to make pickup

I meant to add that in my previous school, TAs were meant to work 8.30 -3.30. One Head said that TAs could be a ltittle felxuble with timing e.g. 8.20 -3.20 but obviously couldn't leave before the children (we finished at 3.10). The new Head said no flexibilty allowed.

Apologies for the typos! Is your HT approachable? My gut feeling though is that it would be quite cheeky to ask.

Thank you. Ill just have to hope that the children are slow coming out of the classroom for pickup!

Are you on supply? If so you can set your own hours.

Here they work 8:30 - 4 so you’re lucky to get away at 3:20

My TA leaves at 3pm to collect her daughter, we don't finish til 3:15pm. Another member of staff comes to support me with the children leaving. (I teach KS1)
If you have a supportive head I'm sure it's possible.

Could you ask to leave 5mins early 4 days a week and then offer to stay 20mins later on the fifth? If you pick the day you could book your kids into clubs for that day and then you and the class teacher could have a proper after school conversation once a week to plan/feedback etc after the class have gone home? Might the head go for that?

Or suggest 8.45 start?
