Just in time for the Christmas break. As it's the holidays we're allowed chairs and everything. I believe even buffets are permitted currently? No going to see Bond films though obviously.

Stolen from previous threads…
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Flowers to anyone testing positive first or second time Sad

Hello, Monkey. Nice to "see" you Smile

timanddaisy · 19/12/2021 12:51

Thanks @Medra. Yeah, that's exactly it. So disheartening.

I dealt with it last year and was fairly upbeat even though I was quite ill.
This year, it's been like a sucker punch and I'm absolutely devastated. I actually feel physically OK, but mentally, I'm not great. 😣

Monkeytennis97 · 19/12/2021 13:21

@noblegiraffe

Hey Monkey, have been keeping an eye on the care home rules and thinking of you. Hope you are seeing your lovely boy as much as you want.
Thanks Noble. He is with us today. I've been mentioning 'virus' to him just in case we can't see him again for a few weeks. He just says 'go away virus'. All triple jabbed here now including both DSs.
Monkeytennis97 · 19/12/2021 13:25

Thanks everyone! Am overwhelmed 😘 We've seen him weekly for the last couple of months and before that fortnightly. I'm sort of resigned we won't see him for a few weeks but we'll have to go to school I'm sure. That's going to be hard just like it was in November 2020 although at least we've all been boosted now (DS1 had his yesterday and DS2, my special boy, had his in early November).

Monkeytennis97 · 19/12/2021 13:30

@timanddaisy sorry to hear about your positive LFT. It's just been so relentless this term for everyone and to get that after it is horrible, sending 💐💐

BitterTits · 19/12/2021 15:00

@timanddaisy

Popping in for some support in the staff room. If there's any biccies or a tub of Celebrations, crack it open and get the kettle on..

Last day on Fri. Had booster on Wed so felt a bit ropey Thurs/Fri. Did LFT yesterday and a strong second line appeared instantly. Sad

Did another one - same. I'm absolutely completely gutted.

The worst part? Exactly the same thing happened last year. Made it to the last day of term and I tested positive just before Christmas.

What a total shitshow.

What a nightmare. I'm sorry.

LOVE that version of the Star Carol, Brie.
Beautiful. Thanks.

echt · 19/12/2021 16:02

All the very best, monkeytennis 🎄

Medra · 19/12/2021 19:06

@timanddaisy I can imagine. Last year we just sort of shrugged and said ‘it was going to happen at some point’ (H is in the Police & 2 children so we have lots of possible vectors) and then we dealt with it.

This year would be a different story. I hope you don’t have too many symptoms and recover quickly. Whereabouts are you? Is there anything we can do to help?

So sorry, @timanddaisy, what shitty timing. I really hope you're feeling better soon, and that next term is easier for you Flowers.

❤. Thanks for the update, @Monkeytennis97. Am so glad to hear you've spent lots of time with ds and I hope you get to see him soon.
cornercupboard · 19/12/2021 19:50

@timanddaisy oh no! I am so sorry! I hope that you benefit at least from the rest and that you don't feel too shitty.

I still have no taste or smell on day 24 since positive PCR. Still absolutely wiped out at the end of the day and feel unrested in the morning. Mind you, a week back in Reception didn't help.

Sending love to everyone especially the poor souls who are going in tomorrow and the next 2 days.

timanddaisy · 19/12/2021 20:19

Thanks all and that's very kind @Medra. I'm OK and actually feel alright. Just have a runny nose and slight headache.

Mentally though, I'm struggling. It's just an absolute Sod's law isn't it?!!! Couldn't make it up. My best mate brought round an emergency box of treats, tissues and gin which actually made me cry more. But lots of people have been in touch today with sympathy and shoulders to cry on (distanced, obv)

@Monkeytennis97 hope you get time with your boy soon.

twinkletoesimnot · 20/12/2021 07:21

They were actually serious about this?

So whatever they discussed in the Cobra meeting probably didn't involve schools.

I don't know whether to feel relief or despair.

I did a PCR last week and was thankfully negative- turned out to be tonsillitis instead🙄

Sorry to all those testing positive, hope you don't feel too bad.

WhenSheWasBad · 20/12/2021 08:56

That retired teacher poster is extremely optimistic. Sorry about the tonsillitis twinkle it’s the worst.

Mistressiggi · 20/12/2021 10:55

Ex-teachers don't look like that. They are either shrunken shells of their pre-teaching selves, or have been retired long enough to adapt to retirement and are up a hill somewhere in walking gear/nice frocks and sipping cocktails.

Useruseruserusee · 20/12/2021 12:03

Tested positive over the weekend and really gutted about it. Youngest DC is vulnerable (was originally on the shielding list) so DH wants me to isolate away from him as much as possible. I agree, but so annoyed that this has happened over the Christmas holidays. The children are upset about cancelling Christmas plans.

I can only have caught it at work. I drive there by myself, have been nowhere else and the rest of the household are negative.

Mistressiggi · 20/12/2021 14:20

Xmas Sad sorry to hear that FlowersFlowers

DenbyChina · 20/12/2021 14:52

Sorry to those testing positive.

Almost all of my and DP’s friends and family are choosing a quiet Christmas alone, either because they or family are vulnerable or because of positive tests. It feels sadder than last year and I lay all shred of blame on the conservatives

eitak22 · 20/12/2021 16:35

I've got a runny nose and cough so am now awaiting a PCR. Panto plans cancelled. Crossing everything it's not covid.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 20/12/2021 21:31

I am mostly hibernating now. I travelled up to the Midlands to see my family at the weekend, but now I just want to stay healthy. Not so much for Christmas, but I'm getting a bit scared about how covid could affect me. My lung capacity has already reduced so much (bump is growing at a stupid rate) that going up stairs is something I don't do until I have to now (ever-growing pile of stuff at the bottom of the stairs until I decide its worth the trip!)

Fenelladepompom · 20/12/2021 21:47

How are things wirh you, Name? Been wondering how your term finished off.

HSHorror · 21/12/2021 14:25

Reading the covid and flu report 49k under 12 have had 1 dose. I find this surprising when its not approved at all (i thought for even cev children?)
So is that all those getting it abroad.
It's already 0.6% of the 0-12 age group - but i dont think that would be any under 5 as not approved many places.
So potentially nearly 50k kids/families travelling abroad for something that should be available here.

HSHorror · 21/12/2021 14:26

44.9% 12-16 dose 1 which is a lot considering gov jvci werent going to allow them to have jabs

DollyMixtureLulus · 21/12/2021 16:10

Sorry to hear of those positive tests :(

We are all absolutely on edge. One day to go. All the Bobs still in.
