Just in time for the Christmas break. As it's the holidays we're allowed chairs and everything. I believe even buffets are permitted currently? No going to see Bond films though obviously.

'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

I'm still snickering about the number. Maturity fail.

MrsHamlet · 18/12/2021 11:27

Thanks @TheHoneyBadger

noblegiraffe · 18/12/2021 11:27

Numbers to avoid when teaching maths: 69, 64 and 21.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/12/2021 11:36

I get 69 but not understanding the other two... Do I want to be enlightened?

Thanks for new thread. Sorry about the shitty letter bittertits

BitterTits · 18/12/2021 11:47

Thanks for the advice. It's hard to look at it objectively when the letter arrives on the first day of the hols.

Beachhuts90 · 18/12/2021 13:30

Thanks for the new thread.

Feeling very frustrated with reports of a possible lockdown to include hospitality only. People will obviously still get together in their homes and spread it, and there will be nothing to mitigate it spreading in school. I followed every rule and guideline in my classroom, quelle surprise it did not work. So now I've lost Christmas and it looks like the very small things I had to look forward to after Christmas may not go ahead anyway. Feeling very hopeless at the moment.

noblegiraffe · 18/12/2021 13:47

21 is some cannabis thing and if it comes up then it is inevitably followed by someone going 'twennyone' in a stupid voice.

64 bloody zoo lane. Again, if it comes up, someone will sing it. God knows whether it's still on TV.

TheHoneyBadger · 18/12/2021 15:21

Grin Thanks for explaining. Zoo Lane was on a decade ago when ds was little. I presume if you sang, 'when I grow old and losing my hair....' back at them you'd get a lot of blank faces. I'd likely do it anyway.

I must stop posting on thread about school. No one cares and I'm waffling away to myself really. Off to finish cooking.

Some of my 6th formers remember 64 Zoo Lane! I did like the opening tune, we had it on a CBeebies CD that was played endlessly in my car for many years.

CarrieBlue · 18/12/2021 16:26

Thanks for the new thread Honey

Feeling really anxious about not knowing what’s going to happen next. It’s too long living in emergency mode and no end in sight. Not the best way to celebrate Christmas really :(

Mistressiggi · 18/12/2021 17:49

Living in emergency mode is a good way to describe it Sad

Monkeytennis97 · 18/12/2021 20:27

Thanks for new thread Honey. Just reflecting on last Christmas and how lovely you were all to me.

13luckyblackcats · 18/12/2021 20:39

How is your lovely boy @Monkeytennis97? Hope this year is easier for you

DreamingofBrie · 18/12/2021 22:45

Hi MonkeyTennis, how lovely to see you! How are you and your family?

I thought I'd get us into the festive spirit with one of my favourite carols. Going to try and persuade our Head of Music to include it in next year's Carol service.

.
noblegiraffe · 18/12/2021 23:25

Hey Monkey, have been keeping an eye on the care home rules and thinking of you. Hope you are seeing your lovely boy as much as you want.

Medra · 19/12/2021 07:29

Thanks @TheHoneyBadger for the new thread. Lovely to see you @Monkeytennis97.

Has anyone else’s school given them the numbers of students to be tested in January? Ours has and they may as well not be testing. It’s between 3 and 9 kids per form group and for most closer to 3. 😢

WhenSheWasBad · 19/12/2021 07:54

Nice to see you again Monkey hope you are ok.

I’ve finally had a decent nights sleep. Friday and Saturday was spent feeling so tired I thought I was going to puke. Feel like myself again now.

Feeling really anxious about not knowing what’s going to happen next. It’s too long living in emergency mode and no end in sight

I know what you mean Carrie this feels so much like last Christmas, with numbers shooting through the roof. I’m just trying to let it all wash over me.

CarrieBlue · 19/12/2021 08:29

I think I felt less bad last Christmas, despite no vaccinations - it feels inevitable we’ll catch it now despite all of us having as much protection as possible/allowed.

Im on a downer, if you see me on yet another teacher bashing thread please tell me to leave as that’s really not helping either. Ugh, just going to hunker down today in my bubble and pretend things are all ok for a bit.

eitak22 · 19/12/2021 08:47

I'm definitely putting my head in the sand to try and enjoy this Christmas! Made harder by family having to cancel due to being omicron close contacts. But you've summed it up so well carrie.

The booster and end of tiredness has kicked my butt. Did anyone get a swollen lymph node after the vaccine?

ChloeDecker · 19/12/2021 09:39

I’ve finally had a decent nights sleep. Friday and Saturday was spent feeling so tired I thought I was going to puke. Feel like myself again now.

Was just about to post the same thing! Fell asleep watching Strictly, crawled up to bed and had a blissful 10 hours. This term has been a bit of a shell shock!

Carrie - those threads just make me tick off how many of the usual suspects pop in with their oh sp predictable posts. They are so dismissive of schools and school staff in a way they aren’t with any other job/role that they probably just on auto-pilot when they post, rather than listen.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/12/2021 09:49

Several eitak. My body was not a fan!

Good to see you Monkey 🙉

Yes to the emergency mode. I also feel like my life for the last couple of years has been in parenthesis itms. I’d like to get back to main thrust. I’m ok with overly long rambling sentences and thought patterns but fuck living between two commas or brackets for years.

Popping in for some support in the staff room. If there's any biccies or a tub of Celebrations, crack it open and get the kettle on..

Last day on Fri. Had booster on Wed so felt a bit ropey Thurs/Fri. Did LFT yesterday and a strong second line appeared instantly. Sad

Did another one - same. I'm absolutely completely gutted.

The worst part? Exactly the same thing happened last year. Made it to the last day of term and I tested positive just before Christmas.

What a total shitshow.

noblegiraffe · 19/12/2021 12:32

Flowers to everyone testing positive. Getting covid during the holidays must be the biggest kick in the teeth after the term we've had.

I had a dream last night that the entire family was infested with nits, and a dream the night before that my computer had a virus and was sending spam to everyone on my contacts list. Can't imagine what those are about.

Medra · 19/12/2021 12:42

@timanddaisy That’s bloody awful. We also had it last Christmas and ended up spending our whole break feeling awful and not being able to do anything. To have to face that this year again must be really disheartening. Sending massive hugs and plenty of gin/wine/toffee vodka.
