When to resign?

I want to leave at Easter. Contract says 2 months notice to leave at following times: 31st October, 31 April and 31st August. Easter holidays start 1st April then back on 19th I think.

When should I give notice in? Don’t want to give too early as it will give them time to get me to do more work in the time I have. I’m confused. I hate it there don’t want to stay till end of school year (July). Need to leave quickly.

I would hand your notice in by the end of February 2022 maximum. That way you will have given 2 full calendar months in advance.

Or if you want to leave by the end of the Spring Term ie 31st March resign by 31st January. Only thing is, you won't have your Easter holidays paid unless you have a new job that starts on 1st April.

Can I have my last day as 19th April so I’ll get paid in the hols? Don’t have a job to go to.

Probably not 19th April if that's the return date after Easter holidays. You may be able to ask for 18th April though 🤔

There are 3 set dates under the normal contract in England and Wales.

The last date to hand your notice in to leave on 30 April is 28 February.
However, the term dates at Easter often do not align with the standard terms. This is also taken care of in the standard contract, known as the 'Burgundy Book'. (If you are in a state school then they have to follow the STATUTORY pay and conditions, but if you are in a private school or an academy/trust they may have their own contracts - so do check).

The issue with Easter resignations is that you are treated differently if you are leaving to take up a post at another school or if you are leaving for any other reason. If you are going to another school then the old school pays you up until the first day of your new school, or to 30 April if that is sooner. In this case you are not expected to return to your old school if their summer term begins before 30 April.
However, if you are leaving and not going to another school then they can expect you to return and complete your contracted time, that is until 30 April.
