I was on M5 last year. I applies for UPS1 but I didn't get it. I did get moved to M6. Is there anything I can do? And why didn't I get it? Can you move form M5 to UPS1?

I “think” you have to be mps 6 before you can apply for ups so that would explain why you didn’t get it.

phlebasconsidered · 29/11/2021 20:50

And in the current climate, stay on m6 for a good while!

Meredusoleil · 29/11/2021 21:27

What made you think you viukd go straight from M5 to UPS1? Don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that before without changing schools that is!

Meredusoleil · 29/11/2021 21:27

Could

And missing out M6 I mean.

Iamnotthe1 · 30/11/2021 06:43

In my authority, you have to be on M6 for two years before any application to UPS1 would be granted. You also have to spend two years on each of the UPS points before moving to the next.

What does your school's pay policy say?

This is what the School Teacher'sPay and Conditions Document says (which may not apply to you of course).

Application to be paid on the upper pay range
15.1. Qualified teachers may apply to be paid on the upper pay range at least once a year in line with their school’s pay policy. Relevant bodies shall assess any such application received and make a determination, in line with their pay policy, on whether the teacher meets the criteria in paragraph
15.2. Where a teacher is subject to the 2012 Regulations, the relevant body shall have regard to the assessments and recommendations in the teacher’s appraisal reports under those regulations.
15.2. An application from a qualified teacher will be successful where the relevant body is satisfied:
a) that the teacher is highly competent in all elements of the relevant standards; and
b) that the teacher’s achievements and contribution to an educational setting or settings are substantial and sustained.
15.3. The pay policy shall set out the process for assessing applications and make clear how the relevant body will interpret the criteria in paragraph 15.2.
15.4. Any decision made under paragraph 15 applies only to employment in that same school.

Why would you advise to stay on m6 rather than go to ups1?
