Teacher maternity pay

Planning second baby and trying to think of finances.

Did anyone take the full twelve months? The reason I’m asking is because I’d like to second time round (took ten months last time) and my understanding was you got no pay at all for the last three months.

However, an online calculator I did indicated that you did - not a huge amount but a couple of hundred. I’m guessing that’s wrong but hoped someone could confirm!

The last 13 weeks are not normally paid

I'm on standard terms and conditions and I didn't get anything for the last bit, but I did some KIT days and they were paid. It's worth looking into shared parental leave as you can work the system to get paid holidays. There is a website which helps you work it all out if you Google - teachersspl www.teachersspl.co.uk/how-it-works

There’s a calculator out there that shows a couple of hundred but that’s tax being paid back to you and child benefit.

You should look into shared parental leave as an option too- even if it's you that takes it all. The advantage is that you can stop it and 'return to work' during the holidays, then restart it agin when term starts, so depending on what time of year your leave is, it can work out in your favour. www.teachersspl.co.uk/how-it-works

I didn't know about this when I was on may leave!

I’m using shared parental leave to boost mine over the holidays. I have worked out how much I get in total for the year, then divided this by 12 and will ‘pay’ myself this each month, keeping the rest in a pot to continue to top up to the same monthly ‘pay’ when it drops.
