Temporary or permanent differences

Any difference between a permanent and temporary contract ? Obviously they can not renew etc but I mean pay and progression wise?

I have a 1 year fixed contract and pay and progression are the same as a permenant contract if that helps.
I was led to believe the school are responsible for cpd and pay progression if you are there for more than 3 months.
