Is this too much?

Hi all
So far this term we've had a maths learning walk, an SLT learning walk, a formal observation, a reading learning walk and now a book look. Is this reasonable? (I've only just returned to the state sector from the independent where monitoring is much lighter touch).
I'm primary, KS1, if that's relevant and work 2.5 days. Not sure whether to say something as to me this seems excessive.

It seems a bit overkill but how much of that do you get feedback on?

HarrietDVane · 08/11/2021 21:17

I'm KS2 in a state primary, and in much the same boat with monitoring. Unfortunately, I think that's just the way things have been allowed to become. It feels excessive because it is Sad

@CheesecakeAddict indirect feedback mostly via KS lead. Little or no opportunity for discussion. More a case of these are the things you didn't do, should be doing etc. Often very negative. It's soul destroying. Feels like however hard we work and try it's never enough.

We've not had anything...but that's normal at my school (independent). I've got an accreditation observation coming up in January at some point, but that's just for a few of our teachers. Once we've gone through those, we can then go several years without being observed at all.
Our observations are also very positive. Our headteacher is very keen to highlight what is going well.

As a school that had Ofsted last week I would say you need even more to pass the hoops they want us to jump through now. They asked every leader (subject leader) wht they’d done to monitor their subject and wanted examples of learning walks, book looks etc and it had to all be from this year.
