In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 67th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from thread 66.
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

Happy half term all!

noblegiraffe · 23/10/2021 10:59

I am a bit confused about the kettle-in-bed. I assume that other things were brought too.

Happy half term! Thank god it's here.

Hahah. Yes. I also brought up a preloaded cafetière and a mug Grin

That's got me thinking about Teasmades. Whatever happened to them? An alarm clock that makes you a cup of tea seems like something that would be eternally popular.

Mistressiggi · 23/10/2021 11:34

I've just binge watched Squid Game. My primary child seems to have heard of it but no chance is he watching it. I might have a talk with him about it actually I don't want it to seem like the "forbidden fruit".
End of half term here and I'm going to spend some time today working out how to make next term be a bit happier for me than last term was 🤞
I think a kettle in bed needs a risk assessment, surely? Grin

Mistressiggi · 23/10/2021 11:36

Noble I've just looked on Amazon - they seem to have been replaced by one cup coffee makers and those things that boil a single cup of water/dispensers.
Needing to go downstairs for my tea is the only thing that gets me up.

Just me who's thinking of Mrs Doyle?!
noblegiraffe · 23/10/2021 11:53

I've now also been looking at Teasmades on Amazon. A lovely video of someone pressing a button then pouring a cup of tea but no mention of where the milk came from.

A Mrs Doyle would be very handy.

twinkletoesimnot · 23/10/2021 11:59

Go 'arn 😂

Mistressiggi · 23/10/2021 12:01

My parents had one. Pretty sure the milk sat in a wee metal jug next to it.

Mistressiggi · 23/10/2021 12:02

Feeling a strong shopping urge today to buy something that will make my life easier next week! Budget doesn't run to a housekeeper, sadly. (Imagine if you could pay for your own classroom assistant at work who would help you however you wished..)

noblegiraffe · 23/10/2021 12:05

But doesn't the milk go manky overnight? Or are you supposed to use 🤢 UHT milk?

The Teasmade needs a little fridge.

Mistressiggi · 23/10/2021 12:05

It was colder in the 70s Noble. No namby-pamby central heating left on overnight.

My mum still uses her teasmade everyday, just takes a little jug of milk up with her each night. I’ve never known her say the milk goes manky. The kettle part makes a hell of a noise whilst it boils though!
Piggywaspushed · 23/10/2021 12:25

Mine was a Teasmaid (the patriarchy, in a pun you see).

The milk was an issue. This is why they were obsolescent form moment of inception.

I love that they are mentioned in P'Tang Yang Kipperbang along with the United Nations and Esperanto and symbols of a new post war optimism.

Piggywaspushed · 23/10/2021 12:26

We didn't have central heating upstairs at all in my Glasgow sandstone!

Coffee taking over from tea is where British society began to crumble.
noblegiraffe · 23/10/2021 12:40

Central heating killing the Teasmade industry is sad.

I thought they were called Teasmaids too, they've obviously changed the name since the 70s.

DreamingofBrie · 23/10/2021 14:38

A Teasmade is something that I always coveted but never managed to get Sad. Can't function until I've had a cup of tea in the morning!

I had a nice order of operations sequencing starter, which asked the children to put into order a series of steps for making a cup of tea. I've abandoned it now, as too many of them have those taps that produce hot water on demand, and we had the whole "milk before water or water before milk" debate too many times!

*MistressIggi", my most recent great purchase was my Ninja air fryer/grill. Pretty much gets used every day, cheesy bagels, oven chips, roasties etc. Made a couple of nice "tray" meals in it too, such as toad in the hole. Easy to wash up too.

I still covet a 4-slice toaster but can't justify one whilst my 2-slice works.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 23/10/2021 15:07

Teasmades! Are you all hankering after hostess trolleys too? Or those trouser press things you get in hotels? Each to their own (but everyone knows teachers should smell of coffee to the point that children recoil).

DreamingofBrie · 23/10/2021 15:37

I'd love a hostess trolley Grin. My MIL has one and lent it to me when we had Christmas at ours. No room though, it's got to be a one in one out system with gadgets in my house at the moment.

AttaGirrrrl · 23/10/2021 15:41

I love how supportive you’re all being Grin
I don’t drink milk so no curdling worries!

It used to be fags when I was a girl.

According to the children at my school, my classroom smells like Costa Grin
MrsHamlet · 23/10/2021 19:14

I'd put my milk in a flask. My tea/fruit tea/coffee flasks keep beverages at the right temperature from 6am to 3pm on a bad day...
