In the absence of staff and her fabulous thread titles and witty openers here is a 67th thread. The broom cupboard is overflowing so time for another Republic. Hopefully we hear from staff soon.

Stolen from thread 66.
'You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.'

They have definitely ballsed up the Covid vaccination programme in 12-15 years olds. Was speaking yesterday to a fellow Mum friend and her 14 year old had their vaccine last week but that they were only one of 5 in the whole year group.
The Anti-Vaxxers have definitely done a number on these children.

My school hasn’t even been told when our Covid vaccines will take place-only just finished the flu ones and the disorganisation of paper work and scheduling, from the NHS Trust was dire even for that.

MrsHamlet · 10/10/2021 11:44

We're vaxxing this week. We've been told not to engage with twats antivaxxers at the gate.

WhenSheWasBad · 10/10/2021 11:49

My form is Year 7. I’d guess over half of the kids who have returned the forms haven’t given consent for vaccination (their parents consent that is).

I think most parents have concluded there’s no point. Their kids either already had it or will inevitably catch it in the time spent waiting for vaccination.

noblegiraffe · 10/10/2021 11:49

Why is he only looking at the issue in relation to school LFDs?

Because, I think, he can connect it to the ONS data for secondary school pupils so he has two matching datasets.

JanglyBeads · 10/10/2021 11:51

Ah fair enough

JanglyBeads · 10/10/2021 11:53

Have you seen the longish post by someone who used to do lateral flow testing in a centre on this morning’s latest ‘Someone has all Covid symptoms but has a negative PCR (with /without pos LFT)?’ thread?

motherrunner · 10/10/2021 11:56

We’re vaccinating again tomorrow. We were locked down on Friday as the anti-vaxxers were out of force. We’re having security on site tomorrow.

What does it say?
noblegiraffe · 10/10/2021 12:06

Absolutely insane, mother that schools are having to hire security. With what money?!

Appuskidu · 10/10/2021 12:08

Apparently Jenny Harries has told Andrew Marr this morning that masks are “not top of her list” for dealing with coronavirus in schools

I think that’s only because she doesn’t actually have a list!

noblegiraffe · 10/10/2021 12:08

I had that thought too, Jan and that was my guess. It's also probably a useful dataset because prevalence has increased massively in secondary pupils so other explanations can be ruled out.

He was looking at this data in a previous thread, I've highlighted the interesting bit. It's only up till the end of September, I don't know if there's more recent data.

I know @noblegiraffe. They were at another local secondary last week. They must be keeping abreast of where the vaccination teams are setting up and protesting at them all.

noblegiraffe · 10/10/2021 12:38

🔥 🔥 🔥 guess who is going to be the government's new 'Social Mobility Tsar'??! 🔥 🔥 🔥

I guess the appointment of a black woman is a positive step....

MrsHamlet · 10/10/2021 12:56

Apparently we only have 11 y7 who are eligible

WarriorN · 10/10/2021 13:07

Nobel, hmm, goodness, ok...

What's the ditching of send labels all about?

WhenSheWasBad · 10/10/2021 13:18

Can’t believe the protests mother

Well I can. But honestly what are these people thinking. If you don’t want your kid vaccinated just opt out.

Katherine Birbalsingh seems a good choice. I give it one year until she quits due to lack of funding or inaction from the government.

motherrunner · 10/10/2021 13:33

I bet they’re not even parents. Just like the insulation protesting thats going on, it’s just an excuse for anarchy.

Iamnotthe1 · 10/10/2021 13:34

We're the same cant and it's been that way in all the primaries I've worked in.

Same day intervention often looks like me giving something more independent in say History, R.E., etc. and then pulling small groups of children to a table for a quick 5-10 minute review. Fortunately, there's usually only a couple that we've not already picked up in class so often it can be done individually. If I didn't do that then, yeah, lunchtimes it would be.

There's such a huge difference between primary and secondary marking. I don't understand why that hasn't been talked about nationally.

cantkeepawayforever · 10/10/2021 13:59

Iamnotthe,

I have extreme behaviour issues at the moment, so the class cannot work independently without risk of someone getting seriously hurt ....

P1P2 · 10/10/2021 14:00

The protesting is terrible, how awful for the students. Really grateful that Y10&11 were done without drama last week. With enough vaccinators. And they did flu at the same time. And uptake was high.

noblegiraffe · 10/10/2021 14:01

Right, why don't primary staff stand up to SLT on insane marking policies?

And why do SLT instigate them in the first place?

Iamnotthe1 · 10/10/2021 14:10

@noblegiraffe

Right, why don't primary staff stand up to SLT on insane marking policies?

And why do SLT instigate them in the first place?

Because they aren't seen as insane in the first place, not by the majority. In fact, it wasn't too long ago when these expectations for primary were practically stated during Ofsted training events.

The justification from SLTs (and beyond) has always been that you can't possibly personalise and individualise your next lesson if the previous one hasn't been marked to a particular depth. Children who are struggling can also not continue on the learning journey alongside the class if they don't get same day intervention or support identified from the daily marking.

Iamnotthe1 · 10/10/2021 14:13

@cantkeepawayforever

Iamnotthe,

Oh no, that's no good cant and just adds even more to your workload both in terms of the behaviour and in terms of marking / intervention. Are SLT putting any support in place for that?
cantkeepawayforever · 10/10/2021 14:13

Exactly what she said ^

It's the same reason why primary planning / resourcing is much more of a burden, because the expectation from Ofsted and therefore from schools has been that there has to be an obvious response in the planning and in the lessons to each pupil's progress in the previous lesson.

cantkeepawayforever · 10/10/2021 14:14

Um - no. It's apparently my fault because the child in question 'wasn't like that last year'. So I have to solve it....
