Hello, I am a fully qualified primary teacher with a passion for working in Early Years and have been offered an interview for a local EYC.

I was wondering if anyone has tips/possible questions so I can be a prepared as possible - I really want to do well.

Im in Scotland!

I’ve been a Nursery teacher for 15 years (time flies!) so have had a few interviews and also interviewed others for EY positions. Here are some that come to mind:

  • usual safeguarding question, what would you do if a child disclosed something to you?
  • what interests you in this role? Really good to be specific about that actual setting, something you like about their practice rather than a generic answer about liking working with young children, obviously this is good but not a full answer!
  • what would you consider to be the most important aspects of your role?
  • what would you expect to see happening if you walk into an ‘outstanding’ EY classroom?
  • what does effective continuous provision look like to you?
  • What is your favourite children’s picture book and why?

Hope this helps a bit and good luck!
