Chaotic school

I've worked in schools for over 20 years in a variety of roles. This half term , due to other commitments I've taken a temporary role as a midday assistant.

The trouble is that it's just so chaotic. My tasks keep changing last minute (which playground I should be on, at what time, if I should be in the hall, etc) and I don't always get told about changes until I'm actually late.

Yesterday a teacher shrieked at me, and got my name completely wrong too, because I should have been helping in her class to get the children changed for PE after lunch. Except no-one told me that, plus when I asked a colleague where I should be she told me something different!

I just hate it so much!

I'm counting down the days until half term. 26 including today.

I'm just here for a rant. God I hate it!!

Oh no! Sounds horrible. You shouldn't ever get shrieked at. Bad communication and last minute changes are the worst combo. Hopefully you can walk away at the end of the day and forget the place.

To be honest I would speak to your line manager if you were shrieked at, that's not on. Everyone in the school is part of the team and deserves to be treated with respect.

Thanks both of you, I appreciate the responses.

I'm just glad that it's only a temporary contract!

Yes, sounds dysfunctional! Hope the contract goes fast.
