If you’re on a ft contract which could or couldn’t be extended can you ask in a progress meeting when and if leave can be granted. I feel a bit scared to ask but I think it’s a valid ask right?

Leave for an interview? Yeah, it's absolutely fine to go to a job interview but you need to let your head know you're applying for another role so you can ask permission for a reference, then if you get an interview you ask for the time off to take it.

At the interview they said they may or may not extend. If they extend but I would still like to look for a new role is that okay too??

How long is your contract for? If it’s until August 2022 there’s no point looking for jobs until after Christmas so no need to raise it with your head yet.

Correct yes I just wanted to maybe ask as it’s good to know whether that opportunity is there to stay or I have to stay in the mindset of looking. If that makes sense.

Far too early. Concentrate on what you’re doing now. They can’t tell you if they will extend your contract yet (too many variables) and there’s nothing for you to apply for now anyway. Just focus on now for a bit. You’ve got plenty on your plate as it is!

I guess. I’m a stress ball I guess haha I think if everything very early

If it's a fixed term contract you have every right to apply for permanent jobs. But you do need to ask for time off for an interview...
