ECT / NQT question

PoptartPoptart · 12/09/2021 10:00

Can anyone tell me how much non contact time an ECT / NQT is entitled to please?
And is it the same for both or does it reduce after the ECT year?
Currently at my school they only get one afternoon PPA (the same as every other teacher!)
This can’t be right?

It's not.
10% extra in year one, decreasing to 5% in year 2.
It's statutory so they can't just go "oops sorry" and it is funded. Stupidly though the funding doesn't come until the end of year 2.

Sorry - a stupid question - how many hours is 10%

It's 10% on top of whatever a mainscale person gets.
I'm secondary but we have a 30 period week. Mainscale teachers teach 27 so an ECT gets 2.7 more (which can only be rounded up)

As @MrsHamlet says, it’s a statutory provision so they really do need to be giving the time.

Here’s an explainer that might be helpful, it’s from one of the providers but the info is universal www.ambition.org.uk/blog/six-ways-nqts-and-mentors-will-get-quality-support-early-career-framework/

Thank you both

Mine works out half a day PPA and half a day ECT time. Next year I'll get half a day PPA every week and half a day ECT every two weeks.
We've been told it's protected time.

10% PPA and 10% NQT time = 20% of the working week which equals 1 full day. Can be given as 2 x 1/2 days, but in most schools morning is quite a bit longer than afternoons so not 2 x afternoon.
