If the actual sessions do not start till 9 am. We have the canteen open between 8:30-9 for tea its a new school what time would you suggest getting there? Will 15m before the canteen opening be okay? Is that too late??

That would be absolutely fine where I work. The school I'm at has a great culture though of not minding when you get in or leave as long as you are there for directed time and do your work. So with that information getting in at half 8 or even a bit later would be fine. At a new school I would definitely get there before half 8 to join in the tea but otherwise wouldn't worry.

They’ve already done the first one sorry I was half asleep typing I was there around 8:20 for that I was just worried I was late but other people did come in after me too as I was walking in.

Are insets counted under contractual arrival times??

@Internetperson1, are you an ECT or have you moved from a school with a culture of presenteeism? You seem very anxious. (I mean that kindly.)

IME, people are far too busy emptying the contents of their pigeonhole and chatting about what they've done over the summer to notice what time others arrive. As long as you sign in before the first session starts, and don't have to creep in at the back, you should be fine. Then try to achieve a light doze ASAP Grin

Hey I understand where your coming from don’t worry. My last placement were quite firm on a lot of things and that coupled with my anxiety can make me feel very worried over things like this.

I was there a 10 or so mins before the canteen opened last time so well on time for session one. I was just worried most people were already there and that I was late!

I wouldn't worry, others arrived after you and it sounds like people were just chatting etc. If you were late someone would probably have said something. People probably came down to the canteen to chat and catch up with those they hadn't seen over the summer.

Although above I meant it when I said with that information arriving at half 8 would be fine. I along with many others would be in earlier because we want to be (I usually get in early to get a good parking space) - I got in a couple of hours early on inset as I was awake and thought I might as well sort out my classroom. I'd have no idea what time others got in as I was busy and it doesn't matter to me when others arrive. I was one of the last into the hall for inset as I'd been doing stuff in my classroom, so others walking in might have come straight from their car or have been in ages but elsewhere.

If it was an issue someone would have said something to you, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm always super early for school as I like to get my planning done in the morning, some colleague will come in just before school starts, it's no biggie.
