Returned to school

Name changed but regular poster.

I've been back to school for 3 weeks. We currently have 6 teachers off with covid out of 21. All I hear from colleagues in other schools is lots of school staff have covid. No advice to give. I'm not pushing for lockdown. I've given up arguing about mitigations and listening to people telling me my risk is imagined.

What are other peoples experiences who have gone back?

No effective mitigations in my school now beyond hand sanitizer. They really don’t get the fact that sanitizer is pretty useless against an airborne virus. INSET day saw us with 40-50 staff crammed in hall and I was only person wearing a mask. I want schools open as much as possible but wish people would realise the best way of doing that is with ventilation, masks, HEPA filters, vaccines etc - all of which other countries are doing yet our kids have nothing. As a parent and teacher I am beyond furious. This will not end well. I also found our safeguarding update particularly ironic when we will be doing sweet FA to safeguard kids against covid. 1 in 7 kids still suffer from the illness for several months after but we have less protections in place to mitigate that than we gave for nits or stomach bugs. Am seriously considering another career.

Everyone should be contacting their unions again. This government needs to be bullied into making research based decisions, not pandering to their conspiracy theorist voters

Contact your unions and the media. Annita McVeigh is apparently interested in what is happening if you are able to tweet 🧐
