Hoping everyone’s first day or inset days have gone well. What would you say to someone who’s about to start in a couple of days?

I’m all new to the team and feeling a bit scared!

It's my first day tomorrow! Going in for the INSET days which is tomorrow and Friday and I'll be starting properly on Monday. I'm very nervous, mostly about covid as the schools that have opened up already are rife with covid :(

I’m nervous for that too. But also knowing no one is so scary!

I am starting a new job in a new school, inset on Monday but I’ve been in a bit this week. I am feeling soooo overwhelmed by it all. Deep down I know I can do the job but I want to fast forward the first few weeks where I don’t know anyone and don’t know how things are done. Urgh. I’m starting to doubt myself and regret changing jobs even though I was SO happy to get the job back in April!

Sweetsweetsoul · 02/09/2021 12:33

Just realised that doesn’t help you at all @Internetperson1 sorry! Just needed to vent my anxiety too! You’re not alone. I promise it gets easier once kids are back and you just have to get on with it. Xx

Don’t worry I’m having the same feelings as you. Worried I’m not capable even though I know they gave me the job as they must have seen something there. The paperwork seems hefty and the scariest however it all comes with time! Good luck

Well if any of you are coming to my school which has INSET tomorrow and Tuesday, you're very welcome to come & chat to me. There will be reams of paperwork and information. I am already stressed thinking about it and this will be my 20th year in that school!

Smile and ask people's names/what department they work in. We've all been the newbie so it's only complete arses who won't be kind and once you've identified them, you're all sorted.

Best of luck - you wouldn't have got the job if you were useless so hold onto that and enjoy the challenge.

Aww that’s so sweet! Yes indeed it was info heavy but I’m slowly trying to soak it in and hopefully once I get a good routine I’ll be able to keep up with myself.

Can’t shake the nerves yet though. I feel so scared about not being good enough as my placement was so disrupted by covid:( some year groups in teaching I’ve barely taught but I guess I just have to pick it up as I go along.

If you want to PM me @Internetperson1 you're more than welcome. We've all been there. Yesterday was boredom city for me. My HoD is a lovely kind person but utterly completely disorganised. We spent 2 hours farting about whilst he tried to find information. In the last 2 minutes he asked what I'm planning for year 8 (I teach the whole of y8, he teaches all y7). I suppose I should be glad he trusts me to get on and prepare the kids well but it does my head in.

Today should have been my day off but there was some Safeguarding training so in I went. Then I got dragged to a meeting about a subject I do a bit of teaching in. OneNote, another bane of my life, has decided to stop working properly. Apparently the IT bod has to uninstall it then reinstall it. I need it by the end of lunch tomorrow. You couldn't make it up!

Hi malbecfan I think I’ll take you up on the offer of a pm and drop you a message now. Thank you kindly!!
