You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement for school staff to let off steam.

Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Scientist on BBC right now saying it is a good thing that 16/17 year olds are getting vaccinated has then gone on to separately state that she feels people should be exercising caution and wearing masks in crowded , indoor, poorly ventilated spaces...

HSHorror · 19/08/2021 12:22

So many other countries offering jabs to 12+ will not be having these issues.

Hopefully uni students either had it or vaxxed.

Sinus issue led to ear infection and now i cant hear out of one ear. No pain or temp though.

Every parent that didnt have to do 10d looking after covid affected child 12+ would have benefitted from the vax.

Magically, after leaving my message with PALS I got a call back today. The secretary told me that the letter with my results had been typed up TODAY and sent by first class post.
My biopsy was 6 and a half weeks ago and they typed the results letter today.

She couldn't tell me what my results were but could tell me that the consultant does not need to see me again and I could take from that what I wanted to.

WarriorN · 19/08/2021 13:43

Hello hope everyone is having a good break. Sorry your taste is buggered Piggy; a Gp mate caught it and is devastated as he looooves cooking. (Incidentally, had Pfizer at Xmas and only 3 was apart; told me Pfizer does wear off, as we saw at school last term among colleagues.)

Saw this and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

More work for some poor sod.

We are doing a well-being drive and if I'm honest, the real stuff that needs to be tackled, isn't tackled. Cos it needs cash.

WarriorN · 19/08/2021 13:43

That sounds positive DrM!

PumpkinPie2016 · 19/08/2021 15:14

Had my 2nd vaccine this morning woohoo Grin

Hoping my arm won't be as sore this time certainly doesn't seem to be at the moment 🤞

Has anyone else done no school work at all?

I've done literally nothing for September and this afternoon, I thought I would maybe get a bit of planning done. Except, I just can't get going at all Hmm I always feel like I forget how to teach in summer which I know is absurd. So currently, no planning at all done for September!

DreamingofBrie · 19/08/2021 15:20

Sounds positive and well done for chasing. Fingers crossed 🤞 for a good result!

Has anyone else done no school work at all?

Extremely little Blush, I've put my timetable together on Excel (no planners yet), but not touched my UCAS tutor reports, which I was advised to start during the holidays. Bit ashamed of myself but have had the loveliest summer Blush.

MrsHerculePoirot · 19/08/2021 15:36

@DrMadelineMaxwell that sounds good news!

I’ve also done nothing, might do some stuff next week as DD at summer school and might send DS off somewhere for a few days!

PumpkinPie2016 · 19/08/2021 15:44

@DrMadelineMaxwell that sounds positive to me let's hope so FlowersCake

Glad it's not just me who has done nothing Blush I have, so far, had a lovely summer though Grin

MrsHamlet · 19/08/2021 19:19

I've done nothing and I suspect we won't have planners for the start of term because I only ordered them on the penultimate day.

The well-being thing looks interesting. I might have a chat with our staff voice person about it. It's very much in the "token gesture" zone at our place.

Hercisback · 19/08/2021 19:27

The wellbeing charter has the potential to be good, but some school leaders can't identify "unnecessary workload". Instead they'll claim red pen on everything and triple marking is "necessary".

MrsHamlet · 19/08/2021 19:57

We don't do triple marking thankfully - but we do have a well-being inset where we all have to stay at work for two hours to do fun and restful things like read a book.

JanglyBeads · 19/08/2021 20:06

That’s akin to making students read in detention MrsH!

Hercisback · 19/08/2021 20:11

Who came up with that idea?

Any sort of enforced 'fun' time should be banned for adults.

We have an INSET day with 2.5 hours of breaks or lunches at a different school to the one I teach at. I am furious at the waste of time.

MrsHamlet · 19/08/2021 20:22

The person in charge of teaching and learning. Which is not me. I'd have timetabled it as that and told people to go home on the bell if I was desperate to get the twilight count "right".
We once had an inset day at a school in another county. We were meant to learn how not to be in SM from them. They went into SM shortly after. And the lunch was shit.

JanglyBeads · 19/08/2021 22:04

Grin Grin mrsh

MrsHamlet · 19/08/2021 22:18

I have a highly developed eye roll. It got a lot of use that day

DanglingMod · 19/08/2021 22:30

I'm still laughing to myself about how much eye rolling happened whilst we were (briefly) wearing masks. Fully grown, intelligent adults all, we knew that our eyes weren't hidden, just our mouths, and yet... Grin

Why the no close contacts in school thing is so dreadful!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 20/08/2021 08:23

Woohoo, first back to school dream.

I really don't want to have another year logistically like last year - with associated work load. Wish I'd resigned.

Why the no close contacts in school thing is so dreadful!

I thought they would be offering a PCR test to close contacts in schools but I must have dreamt that! So, they aren’t even going to tell anyone there was a known case then??

Word will get round the kids by social social media as to who’s tested positive and then parents might have some idea what’s going on, I guess, but maybe once they stop giving out LFD tests, will anyone still test?!

Mistressiggi · 20/08/2021 08:37

Over 3000 positives in Scotland yesterday (which is very very high) and about 10% of tests are coming back with a positive.
I've noticed I've been teaching all round the room rather than staying at the front since I've been back (now 1m distance from staff is the rule). We are all in masks though. So glad it's Friday!

DanglingMod · 20/08/2021 08:46

I posit that people are going to just stop testing now unless very ill. I mean PCRs. What would be the point for mild cases if no contacts have to isolate? The message no isolating gives is that Covid is "over" or at least no different from any other illness. I can see the logic.

Just a guess/thought, but I think rares are going to "plummet."

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 20/08/2021 09:14

In the olden days - when I think most of us started teaching🙂- the lunches and freebies were why people wanted to go on courses. The joy of some free pens!

That’s a lot of tests coming back positive, mistressiggi. I am going to keep wearing my masks too. We’ve not had any communication from school yet so I’m not sure how things are being run. Do we still need desks facing forward? I was also looking at organising some school trips again but the places we go to aren’t offering a full experience yet! It amazes me that some occupations are still getting away with ‘because Covid’ as an excuse.
