Extra bank holiday

Just been randomly thinking today about the extra bank holiday for the Queen next year.
Does anyone know if it falls in hour schools half term do you get the time back or just lose it?
I'm sure if the government gift a bank holiday for England winning the World Cup (hopeful!) it will end up being in the holidays for most too, but it's no benefit if we are on holiday anyway so we'd lose out!

The Dfe have changed the year to 194 teacher days and 189 pupil ones. Schools should be accounting for this in the calendar.
I was called petty today for pointing that out.

I don't really understand that 🤣 simple terms do we get the extra day? So schools will do a training day so kids are off and staff get the day off without working it back?
It's not petty at all, it would be unfair if we didn't get that extra day when everyone else did. I know people will be working it but they will get that as an extra holiday on the entitlement

I think but not 100% sure, that it falls in half term anyway

Nowmum43 · 09/07/2021 20:00

It does for my school, but i know spring back half term seems to be different around the country

It's not a training day. It's a holiday. We can't be asked to work more than 189 pupil days

MrsHamlet · 09/07/2021 20:07

The official day falls in half term but schools have been given authority to pick another.

Loshad · 09/07/2021 20:32

It falls in the summer half term, we have been given the day in lieu towards the end of November ( unreasonably excited about a week day off😀)

MrsHamlet · 09/07/2021 20:32

For everyone at the same time?

Loshad · 09/07/2021 20:42

Yes, school is closed for the day

LolaSmiles · 09/07/2021 20:50

It would have fallen in half term so we've tagged it onto another holiday and have a shorter week at one end of term.

Nowmum43 · 09/07/2021 20:56

I've just checked my school term dates for next year and there isn't an extra day off. We have 2 days that we are working back in training so maybe they will say we only have to work back one of them. I'm
Going to ask next week!

Do. And get your union involved if you need to. 5 teacher days, which can be disaggregated. 189 pupil ones.

twinkletoesimnot · 09/07/2021 22:20

We're having an extra day and we were allowed to pick when. ( there's only 3 of us, and the others didn't care when!)

Msgiggles30 · 09/07/2021 22:28

Our county have decided to give us Thursday 2nd Sept as the extra day. Most neighbouring LAs have done the same so term starts on Friday 3rd instead now. I'd have rather it used later in the year but good to know we will have it!

OutDamnedSpot · 10/07/2021 13:58

Our calendar has just changed to give us an extra teaching day ‘because of the bank holiday’, which made no sense to me. I think I’m going to sit and count the days on the directed time calendar to check it’s 189!

Aduckandachick · 10/07/2021 15:24

Is this is any official document anywhere please?

Aduckandachick · 10/07/2021 22:22

Thank you
