Hello

Found out I'm leading pe next year. Once I've clarified our PE and sport premium budget what advice could you give on best things you've spent it on. I don't mean the normal netball, rounders bats etc as il be doing an audit of equipment to cover curriculum needs but I mean stuff I may not have thought of!

Staff training ?

Unless things have changed greatly in the last few years, there is little in any teacher training course that teaches you how to teach PE and sports skills - be that how to swim or skills for any sport.

In my leadership role, I recently sat in on a deep dive style interview of our PE lead by our school improvement partner (who is also an Ofsted inspector). There was a lot of focus on how we were addressing the needs of children in non-ball sports, primarily swimming (with ref to the COVID gap) but also dance & gymnastics.

Add SEN provision to the above, our recent OFSTED deep dive focussed on provision for children with SEN including both physical and learning needs.

Thankyou all. Very useful stuff! Based on your advice/school needs was thinking training in how to teach Gymnastics and dance training could be very useful. Plus I think there is pretty much no thought given to sen overall from a pe perspective!
