How on earth are we meant to contact trace without them? I'm at primary and there's no way we can ask little ones who they chatted to in the loo etc.

Unless they scrap isolation periods too, I can't get my head round how this will work.

And if they scrap isolation periods in schools they'll have to scrap them for everyone, no? I know they're trialling daily LFT's instead of isolation, maybe that will be the way forward.

cantkeepawayforever · 30/06/2021 22:38

In primary, I can't see parents going for daily lfts.

So we won't get that happening either. I do think it will just be let to run out of control in the hope that a not-too-inconvenient number of staff become seriously ill.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 30/06/2021 22:43

If they scrap school isolation, then all isolation should be scrapped.

Will be an interesting time.

watingroom2 · 30/06/2021 23:38

PCR tests..) Other people with positive PCR tests - but negative LFTs

Honestly I think it needs to go to a 'basic' .. if you have symptoms stay at home - if you don't you are good for school..

No more testing (someone is making lots of money for a very faulty product... can you imagine if pregnancy tests were that dodgy?)

watingroom2 · 30/06/2021 23:39

I'm not sure how the 'front' of my message was removed -

At DD's school there were 3 positive LFT's that were negative PCR tests! Everyone isolated for 2 days to be told 'oh no need'

StaffRepFeistyClub · 01/07/2021 00:09

No more bubbles! If he bans Prosecco that will be a resignation matter for me!

I think it will just be immediate contacts ie those on the same table or in front. So instead of wiping out a year group, it may just be six or so. Still not sure how that would really work in secondary.

September will be an adventure!

CarrieBlue · 01/07/2021 07:02

I think we’ll have a brand new ‘variant of concern’ by October half term that will be vaccine proof, but it’ll be teacher’s fault because most things are. That, and half our classes will be suffering from long covid. But that’s ok because we’ll be able to sit on a beach in Spain or pop to the pub without booking first.

Chillychangchoo · 01/07/2021 10:55

Thank fuck for that.

Doubt it will happen though. Kids will be in for another soulless year at school because of the “pretend mitigations”.

@cantkeepawayforever

I really doubt there will be lots of staff becoming “seriously ill” that’s why we have a vaccine now. Amazingly it also seems to be quite effective. Staff may all get colds mind. I mean I’m pretty sure teachers have got a cold every single September known to man.

The dramatics on here… Hmm

StaffRepFeistyClub · 01/07/2021 11:01

Dramatics???

CarrieBlue · 01/07/2021 13:29

Didn’t realise you were a teacher @Chillychangchoo

Chillychangchoo · 01/07/2021 13:31

@CarrieBlue

I’m not, apologies.

I had no idea I posted on the staff room. My mistake I thought I had posted on the coronavirus board.

escapes quickly out the door

How strange, given this section is hidden... 👀

So instead of wiping out a year group, it may just be six or so. Still not sure how that would really work in secondary.

Isn't that what you already do, staff? We've only ever sent home a handful of kids per case. Absolute chaos with different groups going off and coming back at different times as covid spreads through the year.

theluckiest · 01/07/2021 20:44

Well, considering that one colleague has been double jabbed and has been off for weeks very poorly, I think taking away any sort of measures is asking for a car crash.

Surely allowing the virus to run amok is insane? Ok, staff might not be hospitalised but having many staff off sick means schools will have to close anyway. And as staff will be ill, forget even having online learning as no one will be well enough to do it.

I'm primary too. The general consensus amongst our staff is that the Govt advice will be along the lines of 'Hold your nose & make a wish. Then stick a wet paper towel on it.'

StaffRepFeistyClub · 01/07/2021 22:41

We closed the whole school last week due to the number of staff being triggered on Track and Trace app.

We haven't shut year groups in the past - just some groups.

Strange having randoms wandering into the staff room

DreamingofBrie · 02/07/2021 22:54

We're only sending those sitting directly next to/in front/behind home in our secondary too. Although have given one yeargroup the choice to stay home, due to a rising number of positive cases in their bubble. About 75% have decided to learn remotely.

Will be interesting to know whether isolation ends for the non-school community too. We've had several restaurants and cafes close temporarily due to positive cases in the staff. Wonder how people would feel about those staying open with only symptomatic staff off?

SingaporeSlinky · 03/07/2021 13:32

What do you mean about this section being hidden?

DreamingofBrie · 03/07/2021 14:59

@SingaporeSlinky

What do you mean about this section being hidden?
It doesn't show up in "Active" conversations.
Chillychangchoo · 03/07/2021 19:46

If you Google a title and add mumsnet on to it, it will come up. I often do it to see if someone has created a thread, it’s quite a quick way when your specifically looking to chat about something. So I googled Gavin no more bubbles September Mumsnet and I was led to this thread. Obviously this thread is now on my “I’m on”.

As I have no interest in stepping on a shit load of teachers toes on a specific teaching forum I’ll leave you all to it.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 03/07/2021 20:44

Yes given the horrendous issues we have had with non-teachers in the Staffroom in the past year MN told us that Staffroom threads would not be on their ‘trending’ lists

Fameinaframe · 03/07/2021 21:06

Something needs to change.
We were back for one week and here with are in isolation AGAIN!
The children have missed so much education it can't go on like this.

LolaSmiles · 03/07/2021 21:51

Part of me is happy that it's the end of endless in and out, but part of me is very concerned that there will be no meaningful plan in its place.

Better ventilation is still top of my wishlist.

CarrieBlue · 04/07/2021 07:22

I’d be happy if case numbers were low and falling. They’re not.

seven201 · 06/07/2021 18:37

I'm not happy about the plan. But I guess I'm coming from it from the perspective of a secondary teacher doing ivf during covid. I guess it will depend on what my clinic says. At the moment I'm only allowed in the building if I can confirm I've not been near anyone with symptoms or been asked to isolate.
