Bumped into a parent

I just bumped into a parent, a lovely parent of a lovely child I taught for 2 years and I said the wrong name! I’m exhausted, out walking my 5 month old twins because they will not sleep and the wrong name just slipped out. I feel absolutely awful and the parent looked so disappointed in me. Should I feel absolutely awful, will they hate me now or understand I’m just knackered and not with it?! For context I’m so tired I just tried to pay for a pret coffee with my Costa card and couldn’t understand why it wouldn’t work 🤦‍♀️

When I was speaking to dd's year 6 teacher the year after she left her class she asked "How's the family?" I realised that she (understandably) wasn't sure whose mum I was. Thought that was a good way of dealing with it as it prompted me to say how dd name was doing. I don't expect teachers to recognise who parents are.

Ah they emailed me a fantastically lovely letter the child had written me! I apologised profusely and explained I was a rather sleep deprived zombie. Least I feel better about it now!
