Sims End of Year Procedures

Anyone who is experienced with this got any wise words or tips, especially for infants/junior schools? (Other than why am I asking this end of June Grin )

The person who normally does this has left. My remaining colleague and I are experienced with other parts of SIMS but not this. We've found the instructions and we are part of an academy chain so there are other schools we can call for help but obviously, they are busy too. It seems straightforward enough but still. Confused

DON'T PANIC!! SIMS instructions are very good, just follow them, don't worry if you don't understand what you are doing or why, just follow each step and it works! You don't have to do it all in one go. Import new entrants into a pre-admissions, if you haven't already done so and follow the steps that can be done before September. The instructions are in 2 sections as you can't do some until the start of term, that bit doesn't take long 🙂

Thank you! The person who left has set up the pre admissions for nursery and reception so that's good.

How long does it take for SIMS to set up the new academic year once you've inputted the dates, because it said it takes a long time and no one can use SIMS whilst that's running. I'm guessing May half term would have been a good time to do that! Grin

It's honestly fine - just follow the instructions step by step. Unless it's a huge school or your server's really slow, it shouldn't take long to set up the academic year once you've put in the dates. I always just do it during the normal school day (it's a good idea to wait until registers have been taken first). It's never taken more than about ten minutes of whirring after I press 'go', and usually less. I never bother to get anyone else to logout of SIMS first either.

Probably depends on the size of the school, ours in a small infant takes a couple of minutes at the most.
