SCITT advice

I’ve just been offered a place on a Primary SCITT course starting in September and panicking slightly about the financial arrangements.

I applied for a salaried position (which is still being advertised on the gov website), but at interview was informed that the salary has been removed and the place is now only available with student finance.

Next year I have the option of working in October half term and for 4 weeks in the summer holidays. I really need this money in order to live, but am I being naive about my ability to work during the school holidays during my SCITT year?

My other option is to decline the offer and to reapply for secondary maths with the bursary (I have the relevant qualifications to teach secondary maths). However, it’s late in the year to be applying so no guarantee of getting a place. Also, I’ve been working in a Primary school this term and really enjoy the younger age group. So If I trained in secondary I may well want to move into Primary after training.

Can anyone who has done SCITT or have knowledge of the training year offer me any advice? Are there any other bursaries/financing options I haven’t spotted? Many thanks!

I'm on a scitt and had no bursary or salary available so funded by student loan with a small top up to live on. We've just about made ends meet.

As for working, there are members of my cohort who have done bar work, but generally we've all spent our holidays on assignments. I guess it depends when the assignments are due.

Thanks @namechangedyetagain
Have you enjoyed the year?

On the whole, I have. I am beyond exhausted. I have felt stressed, been in tears at many points and had more times I wanted to give up than I'd like to admit. Today was awful and I burst into tears the minute I got home.

But. I love it. I'm just suffering I think from lack of rest (2 assignments due one month after the other) and evidence folder due this week. That on top of planning, marking and teaching full time has nearly finished me offGrin
