First time in year 6

Hi everyone

I'm just after some advice really! I've been teaching for 10 years and am moving into Y6 from September which I'm really excited about. I work part time (0.6) and wondered if anyone has any tips of how to manage part time working in a year 6 class? In my current role in y4, my jobshare and I split everything and teach totally separately. So, for example, I would teach fractions while she teaches time in maths, and I would do a narrative unit while she teaches non fiction. It has worked reasonably well, but not perfectly.

I will be working with a new jobshare this year who is much less experienced. I suppose I'm just after any advice or stories of how others manage things. I'm particularly interested in literacy, as this is the area I find the most difficult to manage.

Thanks all!

I’m in a job share. What works well for us is saving all planning, timetables and reports on Google Drive so we can both edit them live. This saves constantly attaching things to emails. My school is very prescriptive regarding timetables and objectives that must be covered in a given week so we wouldn’t be allowed to plan in the way you have outlined above. Could you draw up a very rough plan for the term / half term outlining all the key events and main topics to be taught? We do this across the year group and edit as we go along. It helps us to plan ahead.
