First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

Me too! Although you seem to have provoked an Us4Ourselves type. They're not the brightest, are they?

Was pondering what governs when SAGE reports are published. There was one controversial one that didn’t come out for months.

Then I wondered if this one’s been published just in time to convince parents to immunise their 12-15 yos. (Or indeed, if reports are to be believed, the kids themselves!)

borntobequiet · 27/08/2021 19:13

I speculated some while ago if the refusal to allow vaccines for younger teenagers was a very smart piece of reverse psychology by policy makers.

JanglyBeads · 27/08/2021 19:19

Yes you did born!

Now some parts of SW designated Enhanced Response Areas, Secondary pupils will need masks in communal areas!

And The Guardian (well, CIA the FT) even have a helpful quote from Gav about it:

"Policy" is boy girl seating. Didn't work with my top set of 32 where 3 were boys.
Also caused some issues where Geraldine identified as Bob....

I'd say 90% of my colleagues are good or better consistently. 5% CBA snd 5% need - and would appreciate - help. 90% of the arsy emails are directed at the CBAs. I'd love to be able to properly support the ones who need help - I spend too much of my time with the CBAs.

borntobequiet · 27/08/2021 19:52

I never. And was NOT confused!

Just reported myself…

JanglyBeads · 27/08/2021 20:02

Ah born, yes!

Sorry Hen I have absolutely no idea why you are appended to the end of my Guardian link!

(But I can see how CIA got substituted for ‘vis’!)

CallmeHendricks · 27/08/2021 21:19

I did wonder!

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/08/2021 21:20

Loved that thing before asking for help @borntobequiet!

No, all a bit dimbat. I ignored that person from early on - am not even reading any of what they are on about.

Interesting that the last few days some things have been drip fed about 'just getting on with it... everyone for themselves'. But return of masks in the SW changes that.

Yes, it will trigger them all again...Hmm

Mistressiggi · 27/08/2021 22:36

Let them sit where they want the first time. Then you know exactly who to never allow to sit together (in the back row!) again.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 27/08/2021 22:57

Goodness me, you’ve set them off 😄🤷‍♀️!!

I think the klaxon has gone out again. Certain phrases are being used repeatedly. They are like the worker drones whilst the important wasps buzz around Tory MPs and the MSM.

JanglyBeads · 27/08/2021 23:14

That’s a very good point about the SW! Which must mean things are really bad for PH (or whoever it is) to have succeeded in persuaded Boris/Sajid to go with it?

JanglyBeads · 27/08/2021 23:35

Thought at first this was just making an obvious point, but bear the end it suggests that case numbers will be so high that the contingency framework’s threshold will easily be reached and schools will constantly using extra measures.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/08/2021 23:37

Eek.

I'm doing lovely writing planning... maybe I shouldn't bother... or maybe I should start recording over the powerpoints now as part of the planning.

HSHorror · 27/08/2021 23:38

I think though the population of cornwall woukdnt be accurate as in all the tourists so cases per 100k not correct.
In bristol /n somerset/s Gloucester and bath areas there are more cases and more schools to be infected. There is going to be an issue will schools and unis going back

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/08/2021 23:40

I look forward to outside assemblies in the rain. Oh no, we don't all fit in our playground at once.

JanglyBeads · 28/08/2021 01:08

R4’s Any Questions had a discussion about schools, including a statement from the DfE that they were urging all secondary upils to get tested before the start of term “either at school or in the community.”

I wonder why they added the last bit - are they expecting the numbers turning up for in school testing to be relatively low?

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2021 06:46

Getting rid of bubbles and contact isolation was always , in terms of DfE planning, about reducing school absence. And , since there will be no attendance figures til Sept 21st, it'll take a while before anyone can see what is happening.

It does look like quite a lot of public health authorities are still closing or part closing schools in Scotland, though.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/08/2021 06:49

I think it’s going to be tricky for some of ours to make it in for testing. On Wednesday during inset two year groups are meant to be being tested. Depending on your house you’ve been given an hour slot in which you can come. These are teenagers whose parents may be at work so not free to bring them and school transport hasn’t restarted yet.

I’m not sure how I can ensure ds turns up given I’m leaving home at 8am for work and his slot is in the early afternoon which he’s quite capable of sleeping through and we don’t have transport issues as we live close to school.

There may be some genuinely willing but genuinely can’t make it to school between the eg 11 and 12 on a work day. There’ll also be those who just don’t bother.
