First in tops up the gin supplies and turns on the tea urn.

[quote noblegiraffe]First lesson checklist might be useful for new teachers/people who have forgotten how to teach.

It’s a shame the videos are missing-I’d like to have seen those!

MsAwesomeDragon · 31/08/2021 21:13

I am really worried about household members not needing to isolate any more… worried about immunity waning, especially, selfishly as I had my jabs fairly early - hoping I might be eligible for booster as diabetic. My bloods are out of control and they are about to totally change my medications to try and fix it. This is me too, even down to the diabetic blood being out of control and needing to change medication. I really hope that makes us both eligible for the booster relatively quickly. 🤞

Hercisback · 31/08/2021 21:49

I was talking to a friend with teenage children and she wasn't aware that households don't need to isolate. It's scary how little information is out there now.

ChloeDecker · 31/08/2021 22:01

Well my lovelies, my quandaries have started already! Back to school tomorrow for INSET and colleague in my dept who is in the from next door to mine, has Whats Appd to say all their children tested positive for Covid this bank holiday but as per guidance, still has to come in.
I knew it would be quick to start the positive cases but not this case and I feel so on edge already.
It’s all well and good certain posters saying we have to get on with it but so many of them don’t actually have to face these dilemmas!

I swear if I catch Covid again or any of my family does, through school, I’m not going to be responsible for my actions!

PumpkinPie2016 · 31/08/2021 22:10

That's rubbish @ChloeDecker Sad

I have a feeling it's going to be a tough Autumn term. There seems to be a general feeling that it's all 'back to normal' now but with cases relatively high, I suspect staff and pupil absence will cause a lot of disruption.

CallmeHendricks · 31/08/2021 22:18

My HT, who is a tough nut and doesn't scare easily, reckons this is going to be another year of fucked-up disruption.

ChloeDecker · 31/08/2021 22:19

I’m so not going to want to stand anywhere close, it’s going to be so awkward!

MrsHamlet · 31/08/2021 22:20

@ChloeDecker

I’m so not going to want to stand anywhere close, it’s going to be so awkward!
I don't blame you!
noblegiraffe · 31/08/2021 22:37

I don't think it will be awkward, as she has given you the heads-up she clearly knows it's mad and will be expecting social distancing and probably doing it herself.

Hercisback · 31/08/2021 22:46

If I had positives in the house, I'd mask up and deliberately sit far away from everyone and actively warn people to stay away.

PhysicsCat · 31/08/2021 23:04

Don’t run it in. We didn’t finish until the 23rd and were in today for INSET.

PhysicsCat · 31/08/2021 23:05

Run = rub I’m tired.

JanglyBeads · 31/08/2021 23:41

Yeah my boss’s boss (AH) told me his wife was in bed feeling rough and she tested positive a week ago. I tried to unobtrusively step away slightly.

JanglyBeads · 31/08/2021 23:59

Secondary in East Dunbartonshire with 45% of students off either positive or awaiting PCR results - although it’s not clear here whether they were mandatory (I think it’s required rather than recommended in Scotland?) or “out of caution” tests:

Morning everyone Smile

If you're back today - I hope your day goes well Cake and Brew for you all!

I am popping into school today to check my classroom and print a few bits off. DS (7yrs) is coming with me - he's very excited- strange child GrinConfused

Hoping to take him to Frankie and Benny's for lunch as a reward for our hard work Smile

JanglyBeads · 01/09/2021 07:45

Oo have a nice time Pumpkin!

borntobequiet · 01/09/2021 07:55

Your triathlon should be an Olympic sport, @SquashedFlyBiscuits.
I’ll certainly consider taking it up. My best event would be the tea and cake.
By the way, never try to find a café offering tea and cake after 4pm in Church Stretton on a Bank Holiday Saturday with the place full of visitors. They’re all shut.

borntobequiet · 01/09/2021 08:02

There was a very weary sounding head teacher on the radio yesterday (actually talking about the “problem” of girls outperforming boys - I put problem in quote marks because the male commentators sounded aghast and offended at the phenomenon) - but she said that her school (College) was running rigorous assessments from the get go as they expected wholesale disruption to exams again.

MrsHamlet · 01/09/2021 08:05

Many moons ago, to "close the gap", we had a top set of girls and one of boys. The boys flew - best results ever, better than expected. Didn't close the bloody gap though because the girls also did better than expected 🤦🏼‍♀️

PumpkinPie2016 · 01/09/2021 08:08

Thanks jangly

@borntobequiet I caught a bit of that radio interview. Sadly, on the exams, I suspect she will be right Sad obviously, we don't know on what level but I very much doubt it will be 'normal' as we knew it.

PumpkinPie2016 · 01/09/2021 08:09

@MrsHamlet 🙈

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/09/2021 08:18

Bloody BBC report on schools proper giving me the RAGE right now…. Literal gaslighting of whole nation. Talking about whole year groups being sent home for one case, that social distancing has gone (from where?!!?!?)… everyone is looking forward to getting back to normal and testing is the answer to that… etc etc etc… oh yes and CO2 monitors will save us all….

noblegiraffe · 01/09/2021 08:28

Did anyone see the ‘controversial, parents v teachers’ thread before it was deleted? That OP described a R4 segment where all the kids were desperate to get back to school for their mental health (and dull teachers were droning about needing mitigation measures). On twitter I saw a BBC report about schools going back in Leicester where everyone interviewed said it was super to be back with no bubbles.

There’s certainly an approved line being taken there.

Piggywaspushed · 01/09/2021 08:34

Well, I am not anti vaxxer (gosh, I know people who start like that usually are!) but it does go along with all the sudden reports on vaccine refusers who have died at quite a young age. I can't see how this won't make the conspiracy theorists -who also all believe the BBC is a mouthpiece- even more entrenched. Lots of people have died but these deaths are the media focus. Hmmm.

borntobequiet · 01/09/2021 08:40

There’s certainly an approved line being taken there.

As with every issue of national importance over the past few years.
