Applying for NQT role in the future

Hi,
I used to post a lot on TES but now that it’s closed I could only think of posting on here.

I completed my PGCE in 2018 it was horrendous but I somehow did well in my placements but I left quite disillusioned with the school culture more than anything else. I also felt it wasn’t the right time for me to do my NQT year as my training was really full on with having a young family so wanted them to grow abit for childcare purposes.

Anyway I have been tutoring in schools as part of support staff and also an NTP tutor in schools. I haven’t done any supply yet as I prefer the continuity with students etc but I think I might do for financial reasons.

Anyway I think I will be ready to go back into the classroom in a couple of years but I don’t know who will look at someone who has taken out a few years since gaining QTS especially as I’m older and not a young spring chicken.

I guess I’m wanting some career advice, what sort of jobs should I be taking until I apply for an NQT post that will help schools take me seriously, to refresh my own mind and get some confidence back too after being out of the loop with things. I am also wondering about volunteering/shadowing, I know they’ve stopped return to teaching placements for chemistry now.

Thanks in advance

B x

Sorry I should add that I have come across an academies trust that seem to have a good ethos so want to ideally work in one of their schools, have joined their talent pool but thinking of more general suggestions as what would help

I’d start by getting supply work, then you can check out local schools AND get up to date experience.
