Ks1 to year R teaching. Advice?

I'm currently teaching year 1. Job for year R has come up. I have primary pgce, so I'm qualified to teach year R surely? I have done cover in early years before. Has anyone made this move before?

That's hardly a move, more an amble! I moved from Reception to yr 6, colleagues regularly move year groups. A qualified teacher with a PGCE is actually allowed to teach any year group from EYFS to Year 12, despite the category of their qualification so you are more than able. Just state your request to your head and explain why.

Thank you! I'm just aware that eyfs is a different ball game with curriculum, assessment etc and don't have much experience. Good to know I'm actually qualified though Grin

I did it having only taught in a junior school previously. I had done one day with YR on my PGCE and only one week's placement in KS1. This didn't seem to bother the head who recruited me, I was very very open about it!

@Subordinateclause that's encouraging. From speaking to eyfs colleagues it is very rewarding being in year R, physically tiring and full on being with the children all day, taking them to lunch etc. But lots of fun and opportunities to he creative which I love. I think expectations for recording assessment are becoming more manageable in this particular school. Any other thoughts welcome.

I think you've summed it up really well! It's not the year group for me personally but can be very fun. It's good to have experience of teaching different year groups.
