How much notice to give to go part time? Or is it at their discretion to allow it?

My understanding is that you need to request it - no school is obliged to change your contract to part time. Perhaps an informal discussion with the head before you put in a formal request? I think they’re more likely to agree if you ask them before they start putting together timetables for next academic year, and when recruitment for an additional part time teacher might still be possible, in terms of resignation deadlines.

Thanks thought so. Wondering if I'm too later for September.... I'll have a chat with head. Hoping to drop to 3 days

You don’t tell them, you request. In secondary, the earlier the better - we used to be asked if anyone wanted a contract variation in February for the following September. You’ll need to make a business case for the school about how you being part time will benefit the school.

Ask asap, they'll be considering the timetable for September already.
