Not returning after mat leave: paying back omp

I went on mat leave in September and there is a huge likelihood that I won't be returning to my role. I have no family nearby and would have to work 4 days, so nursery would be a no from me due to fees.

I am on M6 (though this is London fringe) and would put my return to work as the start of summer, so would be back for 6 weeks in terms of pay. I understand that I would have to pay back the remaining 6 weeks of OMP. Would this be calculated as gross income or net? I'm hoping net as it makes quite a bit of difference Grin

My understanding was it's a case of return for the full 13 weeks FTE or pay back all the occupational portion.

Agree with above, when I looked into it it wasn't pro rated so it was all or nothing - even if you went back for 12 weeks, you'd have to pay the full amount back. In terms of gross/net, you'd surely pay it back gross but your tax for the year would be recalculated so that overtime you'd not be taxed on the portion you had to pay back.

I went back for the June half-term to get in my 13 weeks. As above, you have to pay back all the occupational mat pay received. For me, it was a difference of several grand so I sucked it up and went back full-time for the last 7 weeks, leaving my 5-month-old and having to express at work.
