You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Excellent news phleb. I'm exhausted. Kids were so loud today, and then toddler didn't want to go to bed. TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER I'm in bed shattered, thank goodness DH took over. Night all, only 3 more get-ups

Piggywaspushed · 29/03/2021 21:53

Excellent news phleb.

HarrietDVane · 29/03/2021 21:53

That's great news Phleb! Hope you feel better soon.

CarrieBlue · 29/03/2021 21:53

phleb that’s definitely a jab I have no resentment about - you so deserved it and I hope the side effects aren’t too awful. So pleased for you

TheHoneyBadger · 29/03/2021 22:09

I'm guessing our average age on this thread would be higher than the average age of teachers overall? Glad you got your jab Phleb.

Good luck at work tomorrow those still working.

DreamingofBrie · 29/03/2021 22:18

I'm mid 40s and unjabbed, noble.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 29/03/2021 22:33

I am 40s and unjabbed.

Very pleased we have another on the thread jabbed.

DreamingofBrie · 29/03/2021 22:50

Good news, phlebas!

Floobydo · 29/03/2021 23:07

I am 30s & unjabbed BUT local drs rang school & said anyone from school who wants a jab can go along on Wednesday. I imagine they must have 31/3 as an expiry date or something.

Thursday in school could be interesting though as loads of us are going!

MsAwesomeDragon · 29/03/2021 23:08

Excellent news on the jab front phleb. I'm glad you've got it done.

In my department we've got 6 jabbed and 6 unjabbed. The average age in my department must be higher than the national average, but most of us are 40s, so we only get the jab if we've got other conditions. Apparently there are lots of us with conditions that put us in group 6 in the maths department. We can't be representative of the country at large. The teachers in their 40s who haven't been jabbed are seeming increasingly nervous about it, especially as we are seeing more cases in school every day. 2 more positives in year 9 today, although only one of them needs close contacts to isolate. In one class they had half of them returning from isolation today while the other half were sent home to isolate.

How many on this thread are below 35?

CallmeHendricks · 29/03/2021 23:18

I had mine around 5 weeks ago (mid 50s). Just counted up and I reckon just under half of our staff have been done by now too - most on age grounds, but a few for other reasons.

Am having real jaw ache recently - not just when I wake up (think I must grind my teeth in the night) but mostly throughout the day too. I have to make a conscious effort to relax it, but it's making my head ache too. Maybe I'm more stressed than I thought.

There are lots with 31/3 expiry. Info from a vacc volunteer.

When my school was done last Sunday, there were 47 jabbed and only 2 off on Monday.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/03/2021 23:25

Why do we have to lfd over the holidays?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 29/03/2021 23:37

Late 40s and unjabbed. I could have had an appt over the border in chester as a link had been shared by a staff member that recognised welsh nhs numbers and allowed bookings, but I think the link was for staff who lived in wales who could be done due to being health and social care members.
Several teaching and TA staff booked and have been, no questions asked even if they were below group 9, so I could have gone and risked it but I'm really not a rule breaker so I haven't.

Dh is group 6 and turned his down until he gets called for the age group due to believing I need it more than him with my asthma. So I can wait and have it in my age group.

Out gp is on group 8 so group 9 is going to be called by the local hub from.mid April (supply dependent) so I'm hoping late april to May..

noblegiraffe · 30/03/2021 00:24

Govt has now decided that supervised LFTs will need a confirmatory PCR. Bit late for the school kids who had to isolate with false positives www.gov.uk/government/news/government-reintroduces-confirmatory-pcr-testing Hmm

motherrunner · 30/03/2021 05:19

Been up since 4 with DS. He’s always terribly effected by the time change. Tbh, it’s given me some time to mark yet more pieces of redone Yr 11 work and answer questions from Yr 13 about their NEA (the coursework that’s due TODAY).

Another year group out and 3 staff isolating as well. I didn’t think school life could be as worse as the autumn term as we were hit badly, but now we’re still being hit but have all the exams shit. Do you also know that despite the mocks for Yr 11 and 13 SLT has decided not to move the exam weeks for the other students (last week before Whitsun) ‘it’s on the calendar’? W.T.F.

Me but have had first jab because of chronic pain condition.
ChloeDecker · 30/03/2021 06:11

Morning! Still unvaccinated here and in my 40s. My really lovely neighbours who both work in banking and have been working from home since last March and won’t be going back for a while, cheerfully told me yesterday that they were vaccinated yesterday morning as a GP friend from another hospital in London told them to come for a vaccine.
I’m genuinely getting more and more gutted not to have this level of protection and be teaching some great but challenging and not social distancing loving teenagers day in day out.
Still two more days to go!!!

Timeturnerplease · 30/03/2021 06:36

I’m 34. In our one form entry primary, most teachers are in their 30s. Most TAs in 40s and 50s, the latter of which have been jabbed.

One teacher in her late 20s has been due to cancer treatment, and our 40yo HT due to an underlying condition.

The only vulnerable teacher is me, due to being pregnant and having history of gestational diabetes, though we have had two mums of student in their early 40s hospitalised so are aware that no one is ‘safe’.

eitak22 · 30/03/2021 06:48

Early 30s here! Few teachers and LSAs younger but not many. Few staff vaccinated as group 6 and LSAs due to age.

Rule no chairs thrown here (although the chi ld who most likely would, would only be internally excluded and I'd have to work 1:1 with them) but behaviour off the wall. Think this week is going to be the longest yet.

BigBobBoots · 30/03/2021 07:23

I'm mid 40s and had my first jab last week.
Local council sent an email to all heads with a link to local vaccination centre and instructions on how to book for teachers (which options to choose on booking form). We were told to say we were vulnerable/had underlying conditions.
Anyone who booked straight away got the jab. Anyone who thought 'I'll do that this weekend' missed out as the link was cancelled shortly afterwards!

Cracklefraggle · 30/03/2021 07:39

Morning all. Sat here waiting for DDs PCR result. 9, full of cold, headaches, diarrhoea, chills - no big 3 but seem to be classic symptoms in kids at the mo. Bloody Easter hols too!!

Sorry I've not been around much. Had weird lockdown dream episodes before we went back. Horrid lucid ones in which family / friends died or those who have passed were still alive. Couldn't distinguish reality from dreams. Came to a head when I broke down in supermarket over the death of my DSD who is still alive! Threw me for a while.

Sorry to hear a few of us are struggling for various reasons. FlowersGinCake

Cracklefraggle · 30/03/2021 07:43

Both DH and I are vaccinated. Me due to recent asthma flare up which put me in group 6 and DH due to age. I'm mid 40s, he's 50.

Quite a few are vaccinated in my school, mix of age and ulc. Both DSD done too. One as nurse, other as a teacher through school contacts with local hub for spare doses. Both 20s.

Saucery · 30/03/2021 08:00

Good news phleb! How they could deny your carer status is beyond me.
Sounds rough crackle. Hope you are on a more even keel now. Flowers
