You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Sorry to hear that @HerdyGerdy. Hopefully something else will come up soon.

I need to break up before I tell Yr 11 to go fuck themselves. Here I am printing out all their past essays (they’re not allowed to use printers due to Covid restrictions), remarking work for them etc and I get big sighs and eyerolls when I ask them to file their work into their evidence folders. As if they’re doing me the favour.

I also had one shit who sits at the back of the class ask me a question. I asked them to repeat themselves as you know I’m at the front, they’re wearing a mask. Cue big strop and ‘forget it!’

KatherineOfGaunt · 29/03/2021 17:57

Sorry to hear it, @HerdyGerdy. The process of finding a new job is so hard.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 29/03/2021 18:37

Ahh shucks @HerdyGerdy. You didn't fail though, you did well to get an interview and for whatever reason you weren't just what they wanted right now. I hope you find something soon.

Saucery · 29/03/2021 18:42

Hmmm, we are being asked for our Covid vaccination dates to add to our official employment records. I’m holding off on that for now, as I’m not sure why they need those or what they would do with them in the future.
Anyone else been asked officially for those details?

Piggywaspushed · 29/03/2021 18:47

No, we don't give over over any medical records! Why would we? It seems intrusive and irrelevant.

When I started teaching, I think teachers needed medicals : not the case any more.

Saucery · 29/03/2021 18:57

The only ‘medical’ information on that system is details of sickness absence. I’m not prepared to hand over permission for anything else. There are all sorts of protocols for keeping medical info, for a start.

Piggywaspushed · 29/03/2021 19:18

Well, considering schools are being cyber hacked it would be a Big Fat No.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/03/2021 19:22

That’s mad. It’s none of their business surely. I can’t imagine that it would necessarily fit with the information governance principles of you want to be very pedantic about it.

Saucery · 29/03/2021 19:28

I intend to be very pedantic about it and have a source for chapter and verse of the governance aspect of it if they try to insist. Never been asked for Flu vacc details, TB, HIV status, MMR.......but they create a medical field for Covid after flatly denying I was at any more risk than someone working from home. No. Absolutely not giving them that.
RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 29/03/2021 19:32

None of mine, but in my year groups, so my responsibility. Love being threatened with a chair.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/03/2021 19:41

Who wouldn’t love that. Mercifully it’s a short week though.

MrsHamlet · 29/03/2021 19:44

Short and yet full of idiots.
Today I have been asked why I insist on wasting lesson time reading books.

GuyFawkesDay · 29/03/2021 19:47

It's Monday....and I just had a post work nap after 10hrs straight in school.

Jeez. Roll on Thursday!!

noblegiraffe · 29/03/2021 20:04

GDPR innit. They can’t ask you for data without specifying how they intend to use it.

DreamingofBrie · 29/03/2021 20:06

Sorry to hear about your interview, herdygerdy, and that yours is still bothering you, honey. The right job with the right people will come along - I would have thought the market would be quite lively over the next year or so.

I've done nothing work related since we broke up apart from write an email to a colleague. Lots of litter picking and crochet. Loving it.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 29/03/2021 20:08

Every wobbly child is my class had some sort of life event happening that made them even wobblier today. I had no ta. Thank goodness I had cake.

Interviews at my school today, mix of internal and external candidates. I don't agree with all the appointment decisions made. I am feeling very sad for a lovely (soon to be ex) colleague.

One of my many Bobs is not going to be in tomorrow.

3 more days...

Medra · 29/03/2021 20:11

Oh my gosh, I am so tired. We have had to send a load of kids home today. Rumour mill has it that it’s two pupils I teach, but if that’s true then lord only knows how they have worked out close contacts.

noblegiraffe · 29/03/2021 20:18

Interested to see tomorrow’s teacher tapp data about how many teachers have been vaccinated. Certainly feel like I’m in a minority of unjabbed on this thread.

GuyFawkesDay · 29/03/2021 20:30

I'm unjabbed too

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 29/03/2021 20:33

Just checking, you are English aren’t you? Not a secret maths teacher?
HarrietDVane · 29/03/2021 20:34

Evening all

PCR came back negative so it was back to school as usual today for another delightful 12 hour day, despite still feeling rough. Several self-isolators in my class (I bet they've got what I've got) so lots of remote learning up set up, plus I've got two parents' evenings to get through later this week. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

Noble - I haven't been jabbed yet either, so you're not alone. I'm late 40s and obese so I'd be very glad of a vaccination.

MrsHamlet · 29/03/2021 20:35

I've not officially been jabbed.
Yes, Rafa. It was one of those times when my face did the speaking.

CarrieBlue · 29/03/2021 21:19

Not jabbed:( neither is teacher DH

Piggywaspushed · 29/03/2021 21:23

UK teachers have an average age of 39. TeacherTapp might not be repetitive but the majority should be unjabbed really. Most of my dept aren't .

phlebasconsidered · 29/03/2021 21:36

I am.now jabbed! 9am this morning. Now in bed feeling vile but still grateful. Lady on entrance asked for health or social care ID and I said I was an unpaid carer. She asked who for and I said my mum, how many details did she want? Once in.the jabby bit the nurses were lovely. They asked again and I said I really WAS living with my mum as a teacher and one said I should have been done when all the nhs were and to pay no attention to.the cats arse face out front. I cried.

I am proper shivery now but it's all good!
