You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Do they not want a proportion of their staff off with side effects, maybe? Still no excuse for saying no if it is offered, but I’m wondering how many staff will be in tomorrow if the uptake over the weekend at my school is as large as the WahtsApp comments suggested last week.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/03/2021 11:22

Me too! To be honest, I think they'll all drag themselves in. Even our most noted 'sicknote' had hers the other week on a Thursday, with the expectation that she'd feel crap on Friday and get a day off - and she didn't need a day off. We were all super surprised to see her in school!

37 of our staff are going today with the school organised slot, I know of at least 7 others who were booked in this weekend due to age anyway.

Saucery · 21/03/2021 11:31

Lol at ‘Sicknote’. There’s a blast from the past Grin
We’ve had about half the over 60/CEV vaccinated staff off. Only for a day or so, I don’t think anyone has taken advantage.
I won’t be dragging myself in with nausea or headache or joint pain (joints are bad enough anyway).:I think I’ve paid my dues over the past year if I have any side effects.

eitak22 · 21/03/2021 11:41

No word round here about extra doses ans certainly none being offered to our school. As a 30 year old I'm not sure when I'll get mine, honestly trying not to think about it otherwise I'll get annoyed about those I know who got spares despite working from home.

I am so drained this weekend, I have no energy and honestly not sure I want to go to work this week (class is super tough even as a TA).

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/03/2021 11:42

If we have 44 staff off tomorrow, the school will have to close!

Meanwhile I've had my staff asking what they can do for our Head to say thanks.

Any ideas?

StanfordPines · 21/03/2021 11:44

Our sicknote has had 3 lots of time off with ‘Covid’ already. She was pissed off when she got it for real in the end.

But this must be lies. Look at the other threads on MN. There are no reported cases in schools.
HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 21/03/2021 11:49

@eitak22 I am annoyed at the WFH youngsters who have been done for spurious reasons. Found out my SIL had hers this morning, not sure why, she's not vulnerable and off on mat leave. Had to smile gracefully and say how glad I was, whilst inwardly seething.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 21/03/2021 11:50

@Piggywaspushed

We had a vaccination centre contact and it was offered to us and our 'covid guy on SLT' said no!!!
What a twat! I hope he had had to apologise for that shit decision or at least be embarrassed by it

CallmeHendricks · 21/03/2021 11:52

Did I say "last straw?"

Solidarity with piggy, as our dishwasher has bust too. I have also lost a diamond out of my late mother's eternity ring and now the lawn mower has bust too. Weird noise and smoke coming out of it.

Happy Sunday, all.

And piggy, that SUCKS about your SLT twat.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 21/03/2021 11:54

I would expect head might like email of thanks with staff saying how pleased they are that she has put so much effort into staff wellbeing. She could probably use that in her performance management.

noblegiraffe · 21/03/2021 12:00

Flowers Hen you must feel at the end of your tether. Really hope your dog is ok, and all the other stuff is fixable.

Piggywaspushed · 21/03/2021 12:37

Our covid guy is also our cover guy so , yes, i think they are related...

JanFebAnyMonth · 21/03/2021 12:46

I know you mentioned that before piggy, and I was surprised. Does he physically organise all cover? Seems a bit mundane for SLT?

Similar here, just glad my older vulnerable loved ones have has theirs.

Callme that sucks! So sorry to hear about Ddog. That's enough on your plate without anything else. Cake your way (or poison of your choice).

chocolateisavegetable · 21/03/2021 12:52

callme so sorry about your dog Sad

piggy that is utterly outrageous!

I am still feeling really cross about Friday Angry so if I get any unpleasant side-effects from my vaccine this week, I will NOT be forcing myself in

Piggywaspushed · 21/03/2021 13:03

Not the work jan no -the cover sheet, supply, LOA etc

TheHoneyBadger · 21/03/2021 13:06

I hope not all schools are assuming people who went off with Covid symptoms or vaccine after effects are 'sicknote's. Attitudes like that would encourage people to come in with symptoms.

I had to isolate and get tested twice since September. It's a bit upsetting to think it may be judged cynically

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/03/2021 13:12

Nooooo, this person is off with things like 'a bad toe'.

Come on, we've all got the known 'sicknotes' in school. In every job in fact. It's not about presentee-ism either, it's just the ones who take the piss.

ChloeDecker · 21/03/2021 13:17

I’m only going to say this in here because I know you will either understand or just scroll on by and I would never say this in real life out loud but it feels awful to me whenever another of my friends/family advertises that they have had the vaccine and they are under 40, WFH and no health issues and just as surprised as anyone to get the vaccine and I am pleased for them but also oh so jealous at the same time and I hate myself for it. I keep screaming inside ‘but what about me in buildings of 1800 people!?!!!’

Two separate friends who had had it on Friday and in there early 30s and WFH or furloughed and Whats Apped me to tell me they have the vaccine both said ‘I thought teachers were being vaccinated’? Says it all really.

Oh well, rant over. I know I will get it one day, as will my DH but it’s just so bloody unfair.

Will do my LFT tonight though.

Is anyone else worried how kids are not being tested in school that it is all going to go to shot at home with either not doing the test and lying or just doing it wrong?

ChloeDecker · 21/03/2021 13:18

*now kids are not being tested in school...

Sorry!

StanfordPines · 21/03/2021 13:20

Our sick note is a bugger for it. She has also loudly proclaimed that when she has had enough she’s going to get the doctor to sign her off with stress.
Saucery · 21/03/2021 13:27

ChloeDecker I understand completely. I don’t begrudge any single person their vaccine. What I do resent is the govt and media spin that teachers and school staff are just the same as anyone else in terms of risk and have to wait for their age or vulnerability band.
I won’t be putting any sort of ‘badge’ on my FB when I get mine and I do think people could perhaps be a bit more careful about shouting it from the social media rooftops if they have any sort of empathy for their friends on there who might not have had theirs yet.

In my early 20s I was a bit of a Sicknote myself for a time. Too much travelling around and partying and not enough considering my career and health. So I can see both sides, really. I was never as bad as the colleague who phoned in sick with ‘flu’ from a busy marketplace in Spain. Had to admire his chutzpah, Senior Management certainly weren’t fooled with all the background noise going on around his sickbed Grin
Fully agree that Presenteeism needs to get in the sea. I was never a fan of being coughed on by someone who needed to be seen to be ‘doing their bit’ when they should have been at home, even before Covid.
I’m going to be guarding my health a lot more carefully from now on and if side effects are the start of that then that can’t be helped.

JanFebAnyMonth · 21/03/2021 13:32

I'm sorry Hend.

JanFebAnyMonth · 21/03/2021 13:35

No Piggy, that's what I meant. The cover manager in our school would laugh herself silly at the thought of that work being SLT level!
