You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

ps unmumsnetty hugs, hun.

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 13:58

Conversations I ahve had with other (nice not teacher) MNers have all agreed that MNHQ have singularly and spectacularly failed to address and deal with the venom aimed at teachers. Which ahs then chased the nice people off the threads s there is no balance.

HSHorror · 18/03/2021 14:36

Misstress you dont come across aggressive.
Ive had to bite my tongue as some people cant see why people are upset about the vax delays.

CallmeHendricks · 18/03/2021 16:36

Stay in here with us, @Mistressiggi.

MrsHerculePoirot · 18/03/2021 16:39

@Mistressiggi you ok hun? That would piss me off too. I filled in teacher tap yesterday and selected online forum as source of support thinking of you lot!

Re visors - no I don’t. I don’t know if would make a difference. But my school says masks in class are totally optional. I mean WTAF.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/03/2021 16:53

Got a positive lfd this morning so now waiting for my pcr result. Absolutely no symptoms. Bit of a flap and a hassle sorting everything and don't know what tomorrow will bring. More fun and games.

CallmeHendricks · 18/03/2021 16:59

"That would piss me off too."

I think a few of us have been in the same position this last year or so. It sucks.

Me too!

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 17:12

Me too!

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 17:13

Oh poo squashed. Hope you remain OK.

Medra · 18/03/2021 17:19

Hope you’re ok squashed,

We have a group of close contacts out after a positive LFT earlier in the week and we’re back to odd pupils missing from classes due to self isolating.

Oh no!! I hope you don't get properly ill. Hopefully the PCR will come back negative. 🤞

We had one positive LFT today. So 30 year 8s are now isolating. I feel so sorry for all the kids with burst bubbles and close contacts having to isolate. They've been at home for so long it must be a proper kick in the teeth to have to isolate so soon.

HSHorror · 18/03/2021 17:29

Squashed - may you remain symptom free.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/03/2021 17:32

I am fine just not really sure what I am doing tomorrow or next week and I hate the uncertainty. Positive will be a real bummer and worry, but negative and back in to a very disrupted class will be a full on end to the week. Plus today was my PPA and I got nothing done as I was feeling so unsettled and don't really know what to plan for. However, knowing what so many others are dealing with at the moment, I am still on the lucky list. SLT also being very good which helps.

phlebasconsidered · 18/03/2021 17:40

I just booked as a carer. It let me, didn't ask for anything.
Got given a push by two children in my class being off isolating but apparently we don't have to because they show no symptoms, just family members. Hmmmm...... so I just raged at lunchtime and booked. Fingers crossed I won't get turned away but i'll try to let my gp know they need to label me as a carer. I'm pretty certain mum's does as I take her to appointments.

Love to all of you testing positive, job hunting, crushed by slt, feeling knackered and worn down

ChloeDecker · 18/03/2021 17:42

The NHS is trolling me on Facebook. Those frontline emergency life coaches and art therapists that are keeping the U.K. afloat....

So sorry @SquashedFlyBiscuits - SadFlowers

My colleague’s under 40s estate agent friend had the vaccine last Saturday by ticking the unpaid carer box. No one challenged him.

GuyFawkesDay · 18/03/2021 18:03

We are back to isolating kids again. A bus and close contacts sent home today.

More work to do to cater for them too 😩

Piggywaspushed · 18/03/2021 18:11

I spent half an hour today setting work for 8 SI students in 5 different classes. So time consuming.

MrsHamlet · 18/03/2021 18:12

I cried a lot at work today. I was holding it together in front of the kids when one of my y13, who is now in my class for the fourth consecutive year, said "miss, you look like you need a hug". And I was gone.
Pesky kids.

winewolfhowls · 18/03/2021 18:20

Oh Mrs H, its always the way with me too. Holding it together but then a bit of sympathy and the flood gates open. I had a friend with a very caring and expressive face and once when my gran died I had to say to her, don't even look at me!

MrsHamlet · 18/03/2021 18:23

The head tried to stop me on the corridor this morning to check in and I told him to back off!!!

motherrunner · 18/03/2021 18:28

10 minute break during parents evening - 6 no shows! Why make an appointment?!!

JanFebAnyMonth · 18/03/2021 18:42

Mistress, well, all I can say is, you're certainly good at disguising your "aggressive posting style" on here - and have never noticed it elsewhere either!

But the other thing that occurs to me: when MNHQ suddenly comes down heavy-handed like that, it's almost like they've had a legal threat or something? (Can you sue about an anonymous post under a username??)

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 18/03/2021 19:09

I had a similar situation with my cousin being diagnosed with cancer. Held it together all day, then just fell apart on the IT tech bloke - who was about 18. He had no idea how to deal with it!
