Want to move abroad?

I work in Iceland and I just wanted to let you know that there are several jobs available in our school for next year. British (Cambridge) curriculum international school. I’m sorry if this is against the rules, I just want to let you know there are jobs out there in countries where teachers are valued and working conditions are so much better than in the U.K.!

Gosh that would be amazing! I visited Iceland on my honeymoon and fell in love with it. ❤️ I know my husband would move there in a heartbeat too. Maybe one day!

What are the working conditions like compared to the UK?

Sounds wonderful! Where do I sign?

Leodot amazing! Very strong unions and parents who (by and large) value what we do, a full time teacher has 26 x 40minute lessons a week and any duties or covers are paid overtime. We technically have to be in school 8-4.00 but there is a lot of flexibility there, in reality you are considered to be professionals who can manage your own time responsibly. There are frustrations of course, but they are far outweighed by the positives for me at least. I was talking to a colleague the other day and we were wondering how we’d cope with a return to the regimented world of U.K. teaching.

@MrsHamlet I will happily share details if you pm me. I know it’s not that easy to uproot a life and move abroad but we did it a few years ago almost on a whim and have not looked back!

Weirdly I looked on the tes international board tonight, first time in years. And only last night, boyfriend suggested moving to Iceland.

Whynotnowbaby · 15/03/2021 07:10

I looked on TES for jobs abroad before I found mine but they actually don’t have the majority of jobs that are out there. Our school said they are just too expensive so they went with a working abroad specialist to advertise.

I would love to do this! I'm currently training as a teacher but once um fully qualified and done my NQT year it would be great as Iceland looks like an amazing place to live. Do you know where I can go to find out more about it?

Whynotnowbaby · 19/03/2021 06:56

There are only two small international schools here so jobs don’t come up often. If you Pm me I can send you a link to this year’s ad and you can get a feel for us, but we are interviewing for those jobs next week and you are definitely wise to get NQT before you look to move. If you are interested in future, you can always send me a pm and I will let you know what’s around. We also usually use a recruitment website callled teachaway but not every job goes there.
