I was interviewed last week and accepted a post. I’m UPS3 but I did really want the job and I said in interview I’d be happy to move down a point on the salary scale. I was reassured they didn’t do that. Great, I thought.

Now the paperwork has come through and I’m on M6.

I don’t know if I should query it or not. It’s the fact they weren’t upfront - ‘we’d be delighted to offer you the job, would you accept m6?’ would be fine but I do feel a bit deceived and it’s taken the shine off my excitement a bit.

Yes, of course I would bring it up. Why in the world would you ever say you'd take less money in interview? Don't undersell yourself, have some confidence. You negotiate for your benefit, not theirs.

Because it’s a tough field out there job wise. I had a lot of rejections which I don’t normally as schools were looking for NQTs.

Yeah for sure I would query that. M6 is quite different to going down 1 point to UPS2 and if you accept M6 you might take a few years to get back on UPS.
I think a polite enquiry would be appropriate here.

Definitely query it. If they say no it's m6 then you can make your decision about what to do next.

Was the post advertised as MPS or MPS/UPS?
