So I work in an independent school
Twenty years TA
Letter re redundancy
I'm in a group of staff at risk
Got to fill in a self assessment form
Interview early this coming week
Feel punched in the stomach
After an already rubbish year....I've been in everyday through all the school 'closures' etc etc with KW children
No questions....just wanted to write it down
Sorry 😐

Are you in a union? Even independent schools have to follow a process.

QuidditchQueen · 28/02/2021 07:36

Unfortunately a lot of indies are feeling the pinch with peiole loding jobs having to pull theur DC out, or not applying or wanting to commit for fear of job losses. So s domino effect.
It’s so hard OP, this id the reality for so many people now loads of my friends in the entertainment and hospitality industries already redundant since the gvt decided to shut down the country.

Ask them for a copy of their procedures.

To help you fill in the form. Wink

They should have done this anyway.

Very sorry to hear this. Have you looked at vacancies in other local schools? Some state schools are still hiring TAs with the catch up funding. It might take the pressure off slightly if you know there are options out there. Very best of luck with everything Flowers

mumtoboyscanterbury · 01/03/2021 10:25

@chocolateisavegetable is right - you need to start actively job hunting and even applying for other TA jobs. Your experience will count for a lot. I’m sorry this is happening to you - really stressful.

Lulu1919 · 01/03/2021 20:29

Hi all
I had my consultation interview today
I was very nervous but I answered all the questions and offered lots of info on things I do or have done etc etc
I've done my best....now I wait !

Good luck, but do look after yourself by looking at other jobs

Indies are relieved that they are back on Monday so at least they get two-plus weeks of being 'in' school - it means that they don't have to give in to discount requests. Plus by now they may know how many acceptances they have for September.

I hope all goes well for you.
