Part time?

I'm currently in school 3 days and wfh 2 days- doing all of my key stage home learning planning. Both my children are home as school has no spaces for them. My headteacher is pushing me to go back 5 days after half term. My dh is wfh but is struggling with the kids alone 3 days- hes been taking 1 day annual leave a week but his work is now saying this isn't an option and he will have to work weekend to make up time.

I'm seriously considering asking for part time but I know she wont be happy. Anyone else in similar circumstances?

I'd have thought if your dh has the option to switch two of his days to the weekend, that would be ideal.

How old are your dc ?

DC 4 and 7. Just wondering about work life balance though. I already work over weekend if he has to too it feels like we're living to work and not much else....

Can you go back to the school to see if they have space - explain the situation?

Alwaysready · 11/02/2021 19:29

I have, they have no other space. Both childs bubbles are near 20 at the moment....
I think part time might be my only option.

I went part-time in September (with a job share) and it has made juggling bubble teaching, home learning and sorting my own kids out more manageable. I’m not sure I would have been allowed to do it half way through a term though, we usually have to submit these kinds of request well in advance so alternative staffing arrangements can be arranged.

I went part time a while back. The school were brilliant. The ht doesn't really get a say, other than who you'd be partnered up with.

Sorry, my original answer was replying to what I thought you were asking, which is "How can we get through to the end of lockdown?"

I 100% think it is a great idea to work Part time, if you can afford it, as a family, when you are a teacher. I went to 0.6 after dc2 was born and never regretted it even now when I'm looking at pension forecasts.
I think it is incredibly difficult to work FT in any job that means you are working 55 - 60 hours a week when you are a parent.
